Science Lab Technician Apprenticeship - Pool Hayes Academy Willenhall
Pool Hayes Academy is part of the Academy Transformation Trust family of academies.
Based in Willenhall, in the West Midlands, Pool Hayes Academy is an academy for 11-18 year old
students that retains strong links within our local community and beyond.
The academy draws its pupils largely from the Willenhall area. We have experienced substantial growth
in recent years and the academy is now a provider of choice in the area and is over-subscribed.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing effective laboratory-based support
within the Science department of the academy, which will support our journey towards
Outstanding. You will be required to undertake a range of duties associated with the roles of an
apprentice and wider department.
Apprenticeship Summary:

Monday to Friday (shifts to be confirmed)
- Wage: Fist year £5.28 per hour, increases to NMW for your age in 2nd year
- Term time only, 39 weeks
- Hours per week: 37 hours
- Expected duration: 21 months
- Training: Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Standard

Key Responsibilities
- Every day, being an apprentice at PHA will bring new learning opportunities, as the successful
colleague will be able to work under the direction of the senior technician to:
- Prepare practical materials and construct the apparatus needed for class experiments and
teacher demonstrations
- Set out, clear away and washup from practical’s, including returning materials to their
appropriate storage locations
- Be responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness and tidiness of equipment and working
areas
- Keep up-to-date with current practices and procedures through appropriate CPD, including
Health & Safety requirements and developments
- Check and maintain stock levels of equipment, chemicals, books and stationery as appropriate
- Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare and protection of children and
young people within the academy
- Working to and within academy policies and procedures, including safeguarding, child
protection and health and safety
- Taking care of own and other people’s health and safety
