Job Title: Counsellor
Responsible to: Mental Health Service Manager
JOB SUMMARY
Providing bilingual counselling to the Kurdish, Turkish and Turkish Cypriot clients with emotional problems in North London.
Derman are funded through several streams including the Big Lottery and have been successful in attracting funding to this essential support to our community.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To provide short-term counselling individual (and group) to Turkish speaking clients referred to DERMAN.
2. To counsel within the parameters set by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and in line with its Ethical Framework.
3. To attend regularly and make use of the clinical supervision provided.
4. To attend line management supervision and team meetings as required.
5. To keep records of all activities carried out and to provide quarterly monitoring reports to the funders and DERMAN as required.
6. To provide brief feedback reports to the referents and liase with outside agencies as and when the need arises, respecting the confidential nature of the counsellor-client relationship.
7. To attend training, workshops, conferences and outside meetings as and when required.
8. To liaise with other staff in DERMAN for the benefit of the clients.
9. To take responsibility for own professional development.
10. To contribute towards the maintenance, improvement, development and promotion of the service and the organisation.
11. To act in line with the policies and procedures of the organisation as well as complying with the relevant Acts.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Counsellor
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Effective communication skills both oral and written in both Turkish and English
(Kurdish would be an advantage).
- The ability to develop mechanisms to receive and provide feedback from clients and other professionals within the framework of confidentiality
- The ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
- Good IT skills, the skill and ability to do one's own administrative work
- Ability to work effectively within a team and with colleagues from other disciplines.
KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE
- Recognised professional qualification at Diploma level or above.
- Professional knowledge and skills acquired through counselling training.
- Eligible for accreditation/registration with BACP, UKCP, or other appropriate accrediting body.
- Competency of working within a recognised framework.
- To work effectively with a wide range of clients with complex needs and presenting concerns.
- Clinical skills including the ability to assess risk and make appropriate referrals.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing Kurdish, Turkish and Turkish
Cypriot clients
- Experience in facilitating groups
- Experience working within primary care with refugees/asylum seekers
- Experience with working with Families
