Job Description

We are recruiting 2 BSc degree apprentices in Radiotherapy Physics. Successful candidate(s) enrol on the BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science Practitioner (Radiotherapy Physics) at the University of West of England, Bristol. This 3-year course combines face-to-face, work-based & online learning, with 3 compulsory 5-day blocks at UWE in each year for practical sessions, tutorials & assessments.

The rest of the learning is based in the workplace at Plymouth for hands-on experience.

Clinical Dosimetrist work in a MDT team and play a vital role in producing patient specific radiation plans for Radiotherapy Treatment, as well as working directly with patient designing individualised immobilisation devices for accurate treatment delivery.

These apprenticeships are for people who have a keen interest in science, a desire to work in patient facing healthcare, work well as part of a team, and have the ability to manage practical training alongside academic study.

The salary is Stepped Pay Progression throughout period of the Apprenticeship.

Year 1 : Band 2 £22,383

Year 2 : Band 3 £22,816

Year 3 : Band 4 £25,147

This post is ideal for an enthusiastic and scientifically minded individual, motivated by the desire to utilise their skills, caring nature and compassion in the healthcare setting, specifically in the treatment of cancer patients.

The apprentice is responsible for following and successfully completing the technical and analytical curriculum and gaining clinical competencies within Radiotherapy Physics. The apprentice will be supported through their training by the Radiotherapy Physics team.

The role will involve regular interactions with a wide range of healthcare professionals, patients, and their relatives.

Successful completion of the apprentice programme is a contractual requirement, failure to progress will result in removal from the apprenticeship programme.

Primary duties and areas of responsibility will be developed throughout the 3-year training programme ensuring achievement of the Band 5 on qualification/completion of apprenticeship. Learning from qualified staff to provide all technical aspects within the scope of practice.

Suitable candidates must be available to start the University course in September 2023 and attend the three, compulsory 1 week blocks at UWE in each year of the degree course.
