Job Description

Due to a change in personal circumstances for the current postholder, we are seeking an inspirational and highly experienced senior midwife whose role as Director of Midwifery is key to maintaining strong professional oversight and governance within our service.. The post holder, in conjunction with the Divisional Quadrumvirate, will provide expert clinical advice, interpretation of national policy within the trust and will work with associated agencies such as the Local Maternity and Neonatal Services (LMNS) in the ICB and health and wellbeing boards, to deliver and assure we are providing outstanding midwifery care.

This is a great opportunity to join UHDB and make a real impact, following major trust investment into maternity services, additional footprint being agreed and the trust leading on a collaboration to recruit midwives from overseas.

You will inherit a midwifery workforce that is truly committed to patient safety and a maternity team that wants to make UHDB the safest maternity service in the country. We have established fetal and maternal medicine clinics as well as Continuity of Carer teams in place, and as a large teaching hospital, we have big ambitions.

You will be a vital member of the senior leadership team within the Women’s and Children’s Division, working closely with the Divisional Director, Divisional Medical Director and the rest of the divisional team. In addition, you will work with the Corporate Senior Nursing and Midwifery team, with responsibility for influencing and delivering a number of trust wide professional programmes. You will be a true advocate of the development of service and are required to both drive and promote continuous improvement.

The role will support and influence the Local Maternity System in line with the Better Births recommendations which includes the planning and delivery of models of midwifery care, creating new ways of working with innovation to improve outcomes, support service development and quality improvement.

This high-profile senior post will appeal to someone who is keen to play an influential role in shaping the future delivery of maternity health care services and further enhance innovation and leadership in the areas of maternity.
