Job Description

The Clinical Education Team is looking for an adult registered nurse who has significant experience working in the community setting to come and join our team. The team works across the Trust supporting education in practice at all levels from the Care Certificate through to Advanced Clinical Practice programmes. You will be part of the team promoting a learning culture across the Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on all aspects of clinical education, to ensure our teams have the skills and knowledge required to deliver great care to the patients in our communities. The post involves designing and delivering training opportunities across the Trust, as well as supporting students and learners across North West London in CNWL community teams.

The post does require travelling between sites.

Job Summary:
CNWL recognises that good education and training resources which support staff and service developments are crucial in order to deliver the best care possible to service users. We have a team of Clinical Educators who work across the Trust supporting education in practice at all levels from the Care Certificate through to Advanced Clinical Practice programmes. You will be part of that team promoting a learning culture across the Trust and you will be the named person responsible for all aspects of non-medical clinical education within a geographic or service area.

You may work with individual learners but your focus will be to ensure that clinical staff are able to support learners effectively and that teams and services are able to access the education they need to deliver evidence based care which meets or exceeds national standards. You will offer clinical education expertise to help Team Leads and Ward Managers to make the best use of education resources to attract, recruit and retain staff and develop teams to provide the best possible care to the people who use our services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Education

You will support clinical education across the trust and take the lead for defined and agreed subject areas such as a specific training programme. You will work with managers and Assistant Directors of Nursing and Professional Leads to identify areas of unmet training needs. You will then signpost people to existing resources or you may work with colleagues to develop appropriate education solutions. You will also be responsible for overseeing Clinical Education within a geographic or service area this may involve the following areas:

Band 2 to 4 staff:
Care Certificate: contribute to the Trust meeting its obligation to ensure that new Band 2-4 clinical staff complete the care certificate by supporting staff in practice to understand their role in signing off competencies.

Continuing Professional Development: support the development of effective continuing professional development opportunities for Band 2-4 staff including skills consolidation. You may contribute by teaching particular clinical skills or supporting staff to assess skills.

Career Development: signpost Band 2 – 4 staff to career development programmes including apprenticeships and ensure effective personal development planning by providing information about what is available to Band 2-4 staff and identifying and escalating gaps in provision. You will support apprentice mentors to ensure that all apprentices in your area are supported to learn in practice.

Students and placements:
You will be responsible for supporting the learning environment across a geographical or service area. This will involve ensuring :

You will also be expected to build close relationships and work with Team Leads, Ward Managers, the trust’s placement team and HEI representatives to respond to requests to place additional students. When it is feasible you will be expected to visit placement areas regularly in order to provide informal support to both students and practice supervisors and assessors. When visits are not feasible you will be expected to organise remote informal meetings.

Newly Qualified Staff, Preceptorship and Rotation Programmes

You will work closely with the trust’s preceptorship lead to:
You will also work closely with Team Leads, Ward Managers and Service Leads to contribute to the development and implementation of rotation programmes and other education programmes which build on the Trust preceptorship programme, attract newly qualified staff to the Trust and ensure they have Service specific skills required.

Continuing Professional Development and Career Development

You will support the effective use of continuing professional development by:

Support new ways of working and new roles

You will work with the local Leads to support the development and implementation of new ways of working and new roles e.g. Nursing Associate or Advanced Clinical Practitioners. You will ensure that managers and educators in practice understand the education programmes which underpin new roles. You will also have an understanding of what needs to happen for new roles to be implemented effectively and safely. You will support the recruitment to education programmes which underpin new roles including apprenticeships.

Functional Skills

CNWL is committed to improving the functional skills in Maths, English and IT of all our staff at all levels. You will understand the functional skills resources available, be able to signpost people appropriately and be willing to be a champion for functional skills.

Practice Development

In addition to the role you play in clinical education you will also be expected to contribute to practice development within your geographical or service area by:
