Front-Office Java Developer

As a Barclays Front-Office Java Developer you will be working in a dynamic front office technology team developing solutions for the Rates and Credit Trading Desks. You will be joining a team accountable for designing and building low-latency software components, performance tuning and enhancements, making sure solutions are delivered on time and are of high quality. The Markets business is rapidly expanding its algorithmic and electronic trading capacity and technology delivery efficiency is key to success.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. What will you be doing?
- Developing solutions both tactical and strategic problems to meet business requirements
- Producing code that is appropriate for a low-latency Java platform
- Understanding requirements and help the team to deliver high quality solutions
- Providing estimates for tasks, including design, development, technical debt, and testing
- Participating in code reviews and architectural discussions
- Developing automated testing tools to exercise functionality, performance, and capacity of code
- Joining Markets Pre-Trade Technology division accountable for all electronic pricing and trading capability across Equities, Foreign Exchange (FX), Rates, Credit, Securitized Products
What we’re looking for:
- Advanced understanding and working knowledge of Java language and its internals
- Experience in writing low-latency multithreaded applications on Linux
- Understanding of multi-threading, memory management, caching, networking, distributed systems, algorithms and/ or operating systems
- Experience in low latency techniques such as CPU affinities, TCP offloading, memory mapping etc.
Skills that will help you in the role:
- Exposure to electronic trading, financial markets and Market data
- Experience working in geographically-distributed environment
- Experience with Python or other rapid prototyping languages
