Administrative Assistant
Lay’s Auctioneers is one of Cornwall’s largest auctioneers and a highly respected regional family business employing more than 30 staff. From the Penzance and Lanner Auction Houses, the business holds more than 30 specialist auctions each year, attracting buyers and sellers from around the world.
Based primarily in the Penzance Auction House, the role of Administrative Assistant involves a combination of responsibilities across all aspects of the business and is an opportunity for a motivated professional to join a fast-moving, forward-thinking business. There will be a requirement to travel to other sites to support on auction days.
You must enjoy working in a fast paced, deadline driven environment and you must enjoy working with the public. You’ll also need to be a team player with a flexible approach.

Key tasks and responsibilities
Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for:
- Pre and post auction administration.
- Data entry on auction days.
- Invoicing clients and taking payments.
- Contacting clients to collect overdue payments and arrange collection of items.
- Schedule vendor settlements.
- Answer email and telephone enquiries.
- Enter valuations in to auction software and generate documents and invoices.
- Seek out and implement process improvements.
Skills and experiences
You must have experience in a busy client facing office or similar role.
Confident in working to tight deadlines.
Exceptional time management, drive and organisational skills.
The ability to work as part of a team as well on your own initiative.
Attention to detail.
Excel and Word experience required.

Schedule:
- Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm core hours.
- Additional hours may be required on auction days.
- Some Saturday working on a rota basis from 9am to 1pm approx.
