Job Description

We wish to recruit a highly motivated individual to a 12-month Research Technician post. You will join a cardiovascular pharmacology group of basic scientists and clinicians. Our group has research projects that span across all aspects of vascular biology.

This project seeks to develop 2D and 3D platforms for measuring contractile/relaxation responses and calcium signalling of smooth muscle cells from different anatomical regions. The developed platform is very relevant to human cardiovascular disease and aims to ultimately lead to new or improved drug therapies/ improved drug screening and personalised medicine. This project is in collaboration with the Department of Bioengineering.

The successful candidate will join a highly successful vascular pharmacology group with collaborations within Imperial College and with experts around the world.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be expected to:

  • To be responsible for all aspects of cell culture associated with this project.
  • To perform in vitro experiments (including using isolated cells) independently and to assist others in performing experiments.
  • To perform contraction/ relaxation and calcium signalling analysis using cell imagining (and other) techniques on data generated independently and those generated by other members of the team.

Essential requirements



  • A Bachelors or equivalent degree in Pharmacology, Biomedical science or a closely related subject area.

  • Expertise in cell culture (both cell lines and primary cells) and cellular imaging.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in carrying out tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

  • An understanding of the working of laboratory equipment and data analysis including statistical procedures.

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently.

  • High level of technical skill and accuracy
