College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences: School of History, Classics and Archaeology

Open-Ended Contract - Permanent: Full Time - 35 hours per week.

We are looking for a L ecturer in Greek Literature and Philosophy

The Opportunity:

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh is pleased to invite applications for an open-ended Lectureship in Greek Literature and Philosophy, within the Department of Classics. The candidate will be required to teach Greek at all levels (to both undergraduate and graduate students, including prose composition), to develop and teach specialised modules with a focus on ancient philosophy (broadly conceived, in any period), and to supervise doctoral students.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD in Classics or a related field
  • Proven ability to teach ancient Greek language and literature at all levels, including prose composition.
  • A research specialisation in ancient philosophy (broadly conceived, any period), and proven ability to teach specialised, research-led modules in this area.
  • Portfolio of excellent research, including in the form of recent or forthcoming publications, commensurate with career stage.
  • Evidence of potential or experience of attracting external funding, commensurate with career stage.
