Based at our site in Gorton, Manchester, we manufacture frozen products for Iceland stores. This is a great opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Advisor to join our HSE team at an exciting time of growth within Iceland’s food manufacturing site.
We’ve had to adapt to new ways of working to ensure we are protecting our teams in the current climate, but we’re busier than ever, growing our product range and want to ensure all our support functions across site are ready to proactively contribute to the site’s growth.
Role Details
Role: HSE Advisor
Salary: Up to £25,000 (dependent on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Core working hours between Monday to Friday, typically, 08:00 – 16:00
Contract: Permanent
Job Description
Reporting to the HSE Manager, the HSE Advisor will assist the delivery of IML’s HSE Strategic plan. They will be responsible for monitoring and proactively influencing the site’s H & S Performance, assisting in the implementation of IML’s HSE processes, collaborating and coaching key stakeholders to enable culture change on site, increasing IML’s legal compliance in relation to H & S legislation, identifying safety issues, and implementing and monitoring safety improvement plans.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in the development & delivery of IML’s HSE Strategic Plan.
- To identify, plan, manage and deliver continuous improvement plans.
- To identify, plan, manage and deliver cost saving initiatives on a year-on-year basis.
- To identify, report and establish remedial actions for safety issues/ non-compliance to legislation.
- Undertake appropriate training when required.
- Monitor, report on and proactively influence the sites HSE Key Performance Indicators.
- Accountable for the management of the PPE process on site.
- Assist in the SHEEN management system in line with ISO Standards.
- Assist site accident/ incident investigations to identify true root cause, trends and increase claims defensibility.
- Deputies and assist the HSE Manager.
- Identify and carry out risk assessments and assist with risk assessment ownership process.
- Build and maintain good working rapports with key stakeholders on site and external contractors where applicable.
- Perform audits and inspections as required.
- Act as HSE Champion, providing training, briefs and communications across site to raise awareness and buy in at all levels.
- Keep abreast of relevant legislative changes and inform accordingly.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Level 3 H&S Qualification
- Proactive & can work on own initiative
- Hands on
- Excellent communicator
- Good team player
- Ability to challenge status quo
- Continual Improvement Mindset
Desirable:
- Proven experience within a HSE Role; Apprentice, Officer/ Advisor
- Experience of Manufacturing/ FMCG
- Food Manufacture experience is ideal
