An exciting opportunity has arisen at Newham Perinatal Mental Health Team for Band 6 Social Worker.
Newham Perinatal Mental Health Team looks after pregnant and postnatal women/birthing people who are experiencing wide range of mental health difficulties. Team covers the London Borough of Newham.
The team is made up of a rich resource of multidisciplinary professionals who support psychological ways of working. The team includes Clinical Nurse Specialists, Perinatal Practioners, Doctors, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Perinatal Peer Support Workers, Nursery Nurses and Administrators as well as working closely with maternity services , Local Authorities and voluntary services.
To work as a member of the community perinatal multi-disciplinary team representing a social work perspective to women experiencing mental health difficulties in pregnancy and up to 1 year postnatal, due to be extended to 2 years.
Perinatal Social Worker will be a champion of the social model of intervention within the perinatal services and will ensure that the social factors contributing towards the mental health difficulties are recognized and addressed as far as possible.
Social Workers are expected to work in partnership with service users and carers, identifying and utilising strengths and working closely with other agencies and voluntary groups to ensure good outcomes which, as far as possible, maintain independence. Social Workers will have a good working knowledge of The Care Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act/DOLS and other social care legislation. Within the team it is vital that Social Workers maintain a social perspective to their work and promote social care issues within the team.
To provide confident experienced social work input, including the development of the Social Worker role within the Community Perinatal Team.
To offer expert advice and guidance to the team on both children and adult safeguarding issues, including writing reports and representing/supporting the perinatal service at child protection conferences and other relevant meetings.
