‘We Decarbonise Heat’
Our client, Caldera, is on a mission to decarbonise heat. Their technology soaks up clean energy, storing it efficiently to provide industrial heat on demand. They have over 10 years of experience in the industry and have climate change as their key motivator for their work.
Caldera is now hiring for an Industrial IoT Software Engineer, to join the company at an exciting time: you will be centrally involved in building a first-of-a-kind demonstrator at their HQ, prior to a global roll out.
You may have experience in electronics, mechatronics, software development and/or industrial PLCs. Alternatively, you may have other digital experience and be interested in on-the-job training to learn industrial systems.
Industrial IoT Software Engineer, the role:
-
Work with customers and our Senior Engineering team to develop requirements.
- Program PLCs to control large thermal storage systems (likely using Codesys), supported by our talented team of mechanical engineers.
- Specify PLCs and IO modules (e.g. from Opto22).
- Integrate PLCs with local controllers and sensors (e.g. Jumo temperature controllers)
- Develop and maintain a cloud IoT platform for data ingress and storage (based on thingsboard.io or similar).
- Upload telemetry from your PLCs to the platform.
- Develop data visualisations and dashboards to highlight mission-critical metrics.
- Ensure the system can integrate with client Building Management Systems (BMS) or SCADA
- Be aware of and implement best practices around cybersecurity and design for reliability.
Industrial IoT Software Engineer, the person:
-
A “maker” attitude: Get stuck in, build prototypes, make them work, iterate.
- A degree in a relevant engineering field, or equivalent experience / on the job training.
- Ability to understand technical requirements, drawings, and product specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable:
-
Experience of automation and control systems (e.g. PLCs, SCADA, Vision Systems, Drives, Robotics, Data Historian, Industrial Networks).
- Experience implementing industry-specific solutions on top of existing IoT / cloud stacks.
- Familiarity with process manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of industrial integration (e.g. multiprotocol device systems like PROFINET, Modbus, RS-485).
No applicant will have complete expertise across the range of skills above; we understand this and will invest in support or training where appropriate.
Industrial IoT Software Engineer, the benefits:
-
Flexible working patterns
- On-site parking
- Electric car salary sacrifice scheme
- Casual dress code
- Company pension
- Plenty of opportunities to grow with company growth
- Professional and kind company culture
- Inclusive and family friendly culture
