STERILE SERVICES TECHNICIAN - NIGHT SHIFT

This is a key role within the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) where, as part of a team, you will deliver all aspects of decontamination of medical surgical equipment.
Guided by supervisors in your work area, you will prepare, clean, pack, and sterilise medical devices in readiness for their use in a clinical environment.

- Receive used re-usable items for reprocessing
- Check, disassemble (as necessary), sort and prepare for relevant wash / decontamination process
- Load washer/disinfector
- Operate machinery and equipment e.g. Ultrasonic, washer/disinfector and supplementary equipment e.g. water gun
- Manual cleaning
- Disposal of used single use packing materials and supplementary items
- Maintain traceability in relation to above tasks
IAP (INSPECTION ASSEMBLY AND PACKING )
- Receive decontaminated equipment and instruments from washer/disinfector
- Identify all instruments
- Inspect each instrument for cleanliness, damage and basic function
- Assemble instruments according to check list (pack specification)
- Ensure instruments are complete
- Pack/wrap all re-processable equipment and instruments, ready for the sterilisation process
- Operate relevant machines and equipment e.g. heat sealer
AUTOCLAVING / STERILISING
- Daily testing of Autoclave e.g. Bowie Dick test
- Loading of unsterile packed items onto Autoclave trolley
- Operation of Autoclave
- Record and monitor cycles
- Unload sterile packed items from Autoclave
- Check / validate sterile loads
- Acceptance, cooling and release of sterile packs for distribution
- Assist with distribution of some pre-sterile packs from stores to theatres
- Maintain traceability in relation to above tasks
