Midlands and Lancashire CSU (MLCSU) have created this new role to support us o deliver our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) agenda. We recognise that we need to improve our performance in this area and are looking for a Board member to support the holistic development and implementation of our EDI strategy and the realisation of our ambition to create a dynamic culture that supports all our people to achieve.
The post holder will be an active member of the Board and lead advisor to the Board regarding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, playing the role of a critical friend. They will help ensure that EDI is central to the development of our core business strategy and the positioning of the MLCSU in the evolving NHS landscape. In addition, they will provide advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders including the Managing Director, Executive Directors, staff network chairs, and EDI Leads
We are looking for a character who can fulfil this role with commitment, passion and integrity and are willing to be flexible in respect of Both hours and remuneration to secure the right person who can make a difference.

This role of Board Advisor is to support the organisation to further develop its culture development. The organisation aims to build a culture which is Attractive, Caring and Equitable, and where everybody achieves their potential. This role will bring to the Board the skills, knowledge, and experience to support and challenge the Board to nurture this culture. This role is a critical friend to the Board.
The responsibilities of the EDI Board Advisor include the following:
To advise and support the Board in the development and delivery of its Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy.
To participate in key meetings/events such as sub board committee, to support the progression of the EDI strategy.
Chair MLCSU EDI group (reporting to board)
Contribute to the development of MLCSU strategy, main areas of risk and environment the CSU operates within.
Contribute to the development of the infrastructure and networks, that support the organisation to be truly inclusive.
Provide advice and challenge on strategy, vision, performance, resources and standards of conduct, from the perspective of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
To bring experience and knowledge that supports the CSU in its cultural development, delivery performance, Market positioning/ positioning of the business, business model and sustainability.
MLCSU is adynamic, innovative, and flexible organisation that is committed to supporting NHS and Care Organisations and Systems to deliver people-centred care.

Support the Board in the development of its work including Business Plans and strategies to ensure that EDI is an integral to the business.
Support the Board in the best interests of the public and is fully accountable to the public for the services provided. Living the 7 principles of public life (Nolan Principles).
Ensure that the board delivers on the implementation of its EDI strategy for all its people, communities it serves and clients.
To be a full Board and active Board member.
To consistently support the delivery of the highest quality of services we can, which deliver best practice and meet statutory requirements
Supporting the organisation to be a role model for EDI.
Assist the Board to ensure the voices of all the workforce can be fairly heard, pro-actively supporting a speaking up culture.
Monitor the performance and conduct of management in meeting agreed EDI goals and objectives
To be a member of and/or attend committee(s) and/or meetings as deemed appropriate
Engage positively and collaboratively during discussion of agenda items in meetings/committees
Assist Directors in setting strategic aims, ensuring that the necessary quality, efficiency and workforce plans are in place to meet its objectives, and that performance is effectively monitored and reviewed
Support a positive culture, uphold values throughout MLCSU and adopt behaviours in the boardroom and elsewhere that exemplify the MLCSU culture
Support the Associate Director of Culture in the delivery of the CSU’s cultural programme, fulfilling the role of critical friend.
Continue to develop and refresh own knowledge and skills, through a commitment to personal development
