BBC Scotland is looking for a dynamic and creative leader to head up our digital and social team. With the mission of delivering value to audiences in Scotland, our digital and social channels play a vital role in reaching and retaining new audiences and we’re constantly responding to market changes in creative and strategic ways.
BBC Scotland’s portfolio of content spans video and audio and a wide range of genres including drama, comedy, factual, entertainment, speech and topical. We work across BBC Scotland’s Homepage, iPlayer and Sounds planning, creating and scheduling digital content in support of our commissioned titles and marketing campaigns. Recent titles include Granite Harbour, Mayflies and The Agency: Unfiltered and we’ve varied slate of content that requires constant creative flex in our narrative to audiences.
Our ambition is to be fleet of foot, bold in creative execution and be constantly trialling new creative and innovative ways to acquire and retain audiences into the BBC’s content, with digital and social creative honed to our audiences’ passions, locality and life.
Main Responsibilities
A vital role within the Marketing and Audience team, the Senior Planning Manager, Digital & Social will develop and embed an industry leading digital and social media strategy that drives engagement and referrals to BBC Products.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead on creative innovations across digital products, and social media output, shaping and influencing it in line with the BBC’s strategic objectives.
- Implement best practice with analytics, content optimisation and community management.
- Help manage relationships with key partners externally such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
- Project managing digital creative output from concept to delivery
- Editorial sign-off of day-to-day activity across BBC.co.uk and 3rd party platforms.
- Manage relationships with suppliers including training and best practice of supporting material, as well as overseeing delivery of contracted deliverables
Who you’ll be working with
You will be responsible for managing the Content Discovery Team within Marketing & Audiences. The team look after a whole host of digital output, as well as managing digital touchpoints, from across all of BBC Scotland. Our team thrive on creative challenges and strive to build individual skills, as well as each other’s.
Just some of the things we get up to day to day include:
Creating content to market shows across BBC Scotland digital touchpoints
Creation of images for BBC platforms like iPlayer, Sounds and more
Curating content across BBC platforms to create an onward journey for audiences
Working with our Audiences team to keep on top of digital analytics and adjusting strategy to fit
Working with other teams within Marketing & Audiences to work to the Marketing and Pan-BBC strategy
Working with other teams to get our content in front of audiences
Working with suppliers across the industry to get the assets we need to promote their content
Social media output across Masterbrand accounts (BBC Scotland, Radio Scotland, River City to name a few) as well as point of contact for Social Practitioners across BBC Scotland advising on best practice and Pan-BBC strategy updates
Are you the right candidate?
The ideal candidate will be a digital media native who lives and breathes social, and seeks continuous improvement in the creative development of digital and social assets. You’ll have a proven track record of growing social media accounts, and developing and enhancing user journeys across digital products. You’ll keep on top of trends in graphic design and drive continuous improvement in developing creative assets for digital platforms.
You’ll have previous experience developing and implementing a social media strategy within a large scale media organisation and be able to demonstrate an impressive track record of creative achievement and driving innovation within a digital space.
Expertise in TikTok, Instagram and YouTube preferential as they are key platforms to grow for audiences.
You will have devised and executed successful large scale social media campaigns and been responsible for overseeing a portfolio of social media accounts, across different genres, growing communities across a number of different social media platforms.
You’ll have an awareness of creative tools and workflows, publishing techniques and a deep understanding of analytics and how to judge success.
The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and management skills, ideally with previous experience managing a creative team and be confident in developing and maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders.
