Job Description
About us
Cocomee is a family-run Pan-Asian restaurant, serving a curation of dishes from South East Asian cuisines. We aim to bring the best of our gastronomical experiences in restaurants and in our travels to our guests at Cocomee. We value authentic flavours that stay true to their cultural origins, going out of our way to use authentic recipes and to source the proper ingredients for each dish. With good food, we believe, must come good drinks. We also curate bespoke wines, premium spirits, South East Asian teas and oriental cocktails you can’t find anywhere else to complete the dining experience with us.
We are looking for a full time waiter/waitress to join our close knit front of house team here at Cocomee.
About you and the role:
Our ideal candidate is someone who has at least one year of waiting experience, has a friendly guest-facing demeanour, and is able to complete tasks well and efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment.
As a waiter/waitress, you will be a key member of our front of house team, taking responsibility for a section of the restaurant and ensuring that our guests’ experiences are enjoyable from when they enter our restaurant to when they leave. We are a large restaurant of over 100 covers so we hope that you will want to take on the challenge of serving a high-volume restaurant with the help of a supportive team.
Job responsibilities:
- Service preparation: checking booking comments and allergies on ResDiary, ensuring all table joins are prepared for service and that your section is clean and presentable.
- Host duties: greeting guests and bringing them to tables when there is no receptionist on duty.
- Being a brand ambassador for the restaurant and what we offer. Our menu is complex - the ingredients, their origins, flavours and how we recommend eating certain dishes, therefore you must be interested in learning it. This also extends to our drink offering.
- Taking food and drinks orders correctly (especially for large groups) and making informed, personal recommendations for those unfamiliar with the cuisines on offer.
- Ensuring food and drink is delivered on time.
- Table maintenance: making sure empty glasses and plates are continually removed and offering further drinks if and when necessary.
- Keeping up the high standards of cleanliness in the restaurant.
- Cash up bills and ensure that the correct amount has been paid, administering change where required.
- Dealing with allergens: being able to confidently and clearly communicate with customers about the nature of their allergy, following our allergen protocols. You will be supported with training on how to do this.
- Keeping up with seasonal events and new policies, as well as being able to uphold operational policies and protocols.
Key skills:
- Efficiency and diligence. We need to be see that you can complete tasks to our requirements and efficiently.
- Being able to handle multiple tasks at once under pressure. For this, a good working memory will be an asset.
- A professional, calm demeanour when encountering issues.
- Meticulousness when dealing with allergies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with guests and friendly table manner.
- Proactive in helping the team where possible.
- ResDiary and EPOSNow experience is a bonus.
- In order to look after a section to our standards, you will need to be able to know the status of where multiple tables are at with their meals. So ideally, we look for people with a degree of observational acuity.
Benefits
- A welcoming and supportive team, who will support your training and development, as well as on busy shifts as far as possible.
- A culture of innovation - we are always looking to experiment, create and improve.
- Staff meals and snacks
- Regular staff drinks.
- Tastings of our menu, and drinks portfolio.
- Staff discounts on food.
- Staff family and friends discount on food.
- Flexibility on rotas with advance notice.
Areas for professional development:
Wine - We are given wine training on our whole portfolio of wines by our wine supplier. We also have an annual wine portfolio event in London, where we get a chance to bring our team to sample new wines and expand our wine list.
If you wish to develop your knowledge more deeply, you might consider complementing this training with formal qualifications such as the WSET exams.
Food - We care deeply about the food we eat and where it comes from. If you are interested in South East Asian cuisines and cultures, we can show you where it comes from, its origins, cultural customs and more. Food is our passion and we hope you will learn something with us, as well as along with us.
In doing so, you will develop knowledge and taste of dishes and cuisines that can be found nowhere in Kent. We will provide extensive training for this, and we require that all waiting staff will have tasted a good proportion of dishes on the menu through menu tastings, staff food, staff discounts on food, and staff friends and family discounts.
Ideally, this will equip you with sufficiently developed personal taste of dishes on our menu to be able to understand guests’ tastes and make informed recommendations so that they can get hte most out of their experiences with us. That will make you an informed ambassador of our food, rather than just someone ‘just taking orders’.
Bar - Learn how to serve drinks, from our special mocktails and cocktails to pouring the perfect pint. Interested in making drinks or mixology? We encourage everyone on our team to constantly experiment and try new things that interest them so that people who want an input and to refine their skills have the opportunity to.
There is extensive opportunity here for you to develop your knowledge and taste of premium spirits we have on offer, such as sipping rums, tequilas, and Japanese whiskies.
Other areas of development - We encourage individuality, even more so when it has relevance to what we do here. Be it an interest in social media marketing, food photography, graphic design, art curation or business development, let us know! Ideally, we will find a place for your interests here; there is nothing quite like a commercial environment to motivate you to develop and explore your interests seriously.
