Job summary
An exciting experience has arisen for an experienced or newly qualified Physician Associate to join our multi-disciplined team at Yardley Green Medical Centre. We are a well-established, GP Registrar training practise delivering family-centred continuity of care to nearly 11,000 patients in purpose-built premises. Our team comprises of 4 GP Partners, 3 Long term GPs, 1 Clinical Pharmacist, 2 Nurses and 4 HCAs/Phlebotomists supported by a reasonably large non-clinical team.
Main duties of the job
Physician associates work under the supervision of a doctor as part of a medical team. The successful candidate will have direct contact with patients in and out of the surgery, take medical histories, carrying out physical examinations, updating records, make diagnoses, analyse test results and deliver treatment. Candidate has to work to a professional code of ethics, provide varied support and show flexibility in the role, show a caring attitude towards patients, have well-developed communication skills to provide treatment plans. The successful candidate will be able to do home visits for our patients.

Job Description
As a PA you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a GP. You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice, in consultation with the duty GP. You will work with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to support the delivery of policy and procedures and meet the needs of patients.
Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior medical personnel. The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders skills and knowledge and determined by the organisations clinical governance arrangements. You will follow recommended annual appraisals and continuing professional development set out by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA).
SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- To deliver a high standard of patient care using advanced autonomous clinical skills with in-depth theoretical knowledge and evidence based practice working under the supervision of a GP
- To manage a clinical caseload and deal with presenting patients needs in a primary care setting
- To provide clinical leadership where appropriate within the practice and support other members of the team to develop and maintain clinical skills appropriate to your role and expertise.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Post graduate diploma or degree (physician associate) Member of Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register Experience of working in a primary care environment Experience of working as a physician associate Experience in triage Experience of dealing with a range of clinical conditions
Desirable criteria
Ability to effectively triage, assess and diagnose Wound care ECGs Chaperone procedure Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly Diabetes Hypertension Asthma Spirometry CHD Immunisations (routine, childhood and travel) Understand the importance of evidence-based practice Broad knowledge of clinical governance Ability to record accurate clinical notes Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to GPs

Salary: £35,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
