We describe ourselves as ‘community within a community’ here at Wessex Water, and the role of a tanker driver is a key part of our customer journey.
Where do you come in?
To set the scene…
We have more than 400 water recycling centres (sewage treatment works) and 1,660 sewage pumping stations. The water you use to clean your teeth, shower and bath, and flush the toilet becomes sewage – we treat 480 million litres of it every day. Our tanker drivers work across our region to ensure its safe and timely delivery to and from sites.
The job involves transporting sewage sludge to and from specified sites, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and keeping costs low by ensuring the product is collected from the correct place and according to schedule. You may also be involved in emergency driving in the event of breakdowns within 400 water recycling centres and 1,200 sewage pumping stations.
What do I need?
You will need to have a clean LGV Class 1 driving licence and be qualified in, or working towards, Drivers CPC. Excellent knowledge of VOSA regulations is also essential to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. Also, health and safety and field practice awareness are a priority.
Experience with vacuum/pressure tankers or similar equipment is advantageous. Lone working is part of this role, so you must be capable of working unsupervised. You should also be computer literate and have a strong geographical knowledge of the area. Strong communication skills are also essential.
