Job Description
Spring Valley Golf Course is currently seeking an Assistant Superintendent. Our goal is to provide an excellent customer experience and working environment for our staff. The course is surrounded by County Parks land and rural properties in the beautiful foothills of Milpitas, CA. Spring Valley Golf Course was constructed in 1956 and has benefitted from significant capital improvements over the years with a master plan currently under way for further major improvements.
The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the supervision of the Director of Golf Course Operations and Superintendent, the Assistant directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course, practice facility, and related infrastructure. Additionally, the assistant superintendent may be required to perform a variety of tasks within the club amenity areas and buildings to contribute to the overall success of the club.
The duties include assessing and providing guidance and expertise to maintain rigorous industry and environmental standards in turf quality, including use of specialized knowledge in various fields of agronomy and horticulture. Based on such knowledge, the Assistant is responsible for making recommendations and decisions to address or direct others to address any issues with turf quality in conjunction with the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent.
The Assistant Superintendent will participate in hiring, training, and developing all staff, to include ensuring the staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
- Train and Implement Procedures for Golf Course Maintenance Staff
- Assign and evaluate performance of daily tasks
- Perform Chemical and Fertilizer applications
- Daily water management of Practices Greens, Tees, and Fairways
- Daily setup of course for customer playability
- Manage daily employee projects
- Daily evaluation of turf for wear, disease, moisture, cut quality, growth rate, etc. with an emphasis on adherence to IPM standards
- Conduct performance evaluations of Golf Course Maintenance staff and crew as directed on a timely basis.
- Assign and develop work-efficient schedules to meet staffing needs of Golf Operations and as warranted, recruit and hire staff to provide superior level of customer services.
- Effective communication with customers, staff, and Senior Management.
- Ability to work well under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks, and attention to details.
- Ensure that all direct reports adhere to standards regarding dress code.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner and always maintain a professional image.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
