Position Responsibilities
Portfolio Management (60%): You will initially be allocated eight to ten investment portfolios which will cover a range of institutional and family office clients. Example institutional clients include the endowments of the V&A Museum, Eton College and INSEAD Business School. In London, the portfolios are largely managed on a fully discretionary basis by teams of three to six people. The aim of the portfolio management team is to specify, develop and ensure execution of clients’ investment strategies. This will involve, among other things, the setting of long-term asset allocation strategy, the selection of approved investment funds to achieve this strategy, the ongoing monitoring, management and continual improvement of the investment line-up, and the production of materials for client meetings to report on investment performance and discuss investment strategy. With support and training, we expect you to grow into a position to be able to attend these meetings and develop relationships with clients.
Investment Origination, Execution and Monitoring (30%): You will initially be allocated to either one of three asset class teams: 1) Private Markets, 2) Absolute Return and Credit or 3) Global Equities, or a broader area such as socially responsible (ESG) investing. As part of the team you will be responsible for researching and identifying promising investment theses and subsequently conducting due diligence on asset managers who, once approved through our investment process, would deploy our clients’ capital. Once a manager is approved, the decision of whether to allocate to it is made by the individual client portfolio management teams, of which you will be a member, as described above. Manager due diligence will result in you having exposure and direct access to some of the most seasoned and high-quality asset managers in the world. As such we expect our investment associates to display a significant level of maturity and gravitas. Over time you will be expected to develop one or more specialist areas of expertise, manage relationships with managers in those areas and be able to identify and sponsor new investments in those areas through the investment process.
Other (10%): In addition to the above, you will, for variety, take on other activities and projects, which might include: researching and improving our portfolio construction knowledge and approach, assisting with business development, or helping to develop our technological capabilities.
Attributes
We are looking for intellectually curious team players with a strong desire to further our reputation for excellence. You will have good problem-solving and interpersonal skills and thrive in a collaborative working environment. You need not have worked within the investment management industry, but you will have worked for one to three years in a professional services role (e.g., within management consulting, investment banking, or accounting) and have a passion for investing. You will have good capabilities in the Office Suite and will have graduated with a 1st or upper 2nd class degree (or non-UK equivalent) in an academic subject from a leading university. As we are proponents of lifelong learning, you will be keen to commit to further professional development including the CFA qualification, which we will support. If you believe you have some (or all) of these attributes and are looking to fulfill your potential in an intellectually engaging career with good long-term progression prospects in a growing firm, we encourage you to apply.
Remuneration
The salary is competitive and would include a bonus, depending on experience and qualifications.
