During the application process you will be asked to complete an online numeracy test.
Please note: The test deadline is the same as the application deadline.
The GESR Recruitment Team work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Therefore, technical support will not be available outside of these hours.
The numerical test is not timed. Therefore, you should not need to request extra time to complete this test as a reasonable adjustment. For further information on reasonable adjustments and practice tests please read: Reasonable adjustments for online tests - a candidate guide - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The sift is due to take place from 21 March to 6 April 2023. Interviews/assessments are likely to be held from week commencing 10 April to 5 May 2023. We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert. However, there may be occasions when these dates will change.
Candidates who are successful at the sift stage will receive notification and will be interviewed at one of the participating Departments. Due to the large volume of applications expected, applicants will be randomly allocated for interview at any of the participating departments.
Candidates who are unsuccessful at the sift stage will not be given any feedback or comments.
Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview.
Occasionally, a Department might withdraw from the scheme before placements are offered or we might have more successful candidates than available placements. In such cases, applicants will be placed in the reserve pool.
Placement Offer
All candidates will be offered a role based on merit. Location preference will be taken into consideration but is not guaranteed.
Please note that some departments require candidates to have a UK footprint of 5 years and no period longer than 3 months outside of the UK to get security clearance.
Contract Terms and Applications
Contracts are as set by the relevant departments. All civil servants are appointed on merit through fair and open competition. The selection process will consider your attitude, capability, talent and willingness to learn. If appointed you will be expected to carry out your role with dedication and a commitment to the Civil Service and its core values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality.
Immigration
Please note that it is possible to meet the nationality requirements and still not be legally entitled to work in the UK.
Individuals will need to demonstrate their eligibility under the Civil Service Nationality Rules (CSNRs). Nationality requirements are explained in more detail on the Civil Service nationality rules webpage.
Candidates must have the right to work in the UK, as we do not offer sponsorship.
For full details please see Nationality requirements.

At the GES we welcome applications from anyone with the necessary qualifications, regardless of sex, marital status, race, colour, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or, in Northern Ireland, community background. There are no age limits.
