Job Description
Providing advice and guidance on equality issues for staff under guidance of the Associate Director for Equality and Inclusion. The post holder will work with colleagues across the Trust to ensure that staff are aware of their responsibilities under equality legislation including Equality Analysis and Accessible Communication and Interpreter Services.
A Champion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, you will work to support the delivery of the Trust’s ambition to facilitate a Compassionate and Inclusive culture where every member of staff has a sense of belonging and a good working experience. You will support and lead on areas of work that support legal compliance to the Diversity and Inclusion agenda and those that are developed and coproduced with staff carers and service users.
The post holder will work closely with the Trust’s Associate Director for Equality and Inclusion to develop and implement policies, strategies and measures to achieve and demonstrate good practice and compliance with equality legislation. The post holder will lead on work streams and projects which deliver a range of national and local initiatives specific to the Trust Equality and Inclusion agenda and Trust’s wider strategies. Working in a small team and service leads for Interpreting and Chaplaincy services the post holder will deliver the Inclusion and Belonging agenda through structured work programmes and initiatives. Working with Care Group EDI working groups the post holder will develop a Trust wide portfolio of good practice through the lens of EDI.
Working within the corporate EDI team you will support the Interpretation and Chaplaincy and Spirituality services. The team is energetic and busy working very closely to support each other and the services provided. Your role is such that during engagement and involvement projects you will be expected to support the team at evening or weekend events, these are planned in advance and flexible working plans will be prepared to adjust hours and workload for these events. Main duties and responsibilities
- To deliver the Trust’s approach to an inclusive work and care environment through embedding equality and diversity into all relevant Trust activity.
- To provide advice, support and facilitation to services on the implementation, performance monitoring and assessment of impact of equality and diversity objectives, actions and targets as identified in the Trust’s Strategy (and it’s supporting strategies). This includes evidence gathering and the implementation of actions emanating from the Trust’s accreditation under the Deaf charter and other Equality Charter Marks.
- To lead specific equality and inclusion projects and initiatives in line with the Equality work program.
- To produce equality monitoring reports across the Trust services and business units supporting future equality action planning and target setting. For example the service and workforce equality data analysis reports.
- To develop and deliver training programmes related to the equality and inclusion agenda across the Trust.
- To provide administrative support as to relevant meetings as directed by the Associate Director for equality and inclusion.
- To co-ordinate, facilitate and provide administration to the Trust’s Equality Networks supporting contribution to reports and member engagement and feedback. This includes arrangement of scheduled calendar of meetings, ensuring accessibility for venues/mode of delivery and ensuring the effective recording, delivery and reporting of agreed actions.
- To organise and facilitate the delivery and implementation of equality campaigns and events to raise awareness and foster good relations between people of different backgrounds. This includes regular communication feeds to staff, service users and community partners.
- Supporting the Trust with accreditations, awards and bids e.g. Disability Confident, Race Equality Code, Stonewall Diversity Champions etc.
- To maintain high standards of practice and recording of data as per Trust policies for record keeping and information Governance.
- To provide, in conjunction with other team members, cross cover for other administrators during periods of heavy work pressure or absence.
Systems and equipment
- To contribute to the equality infrastructure including the staff networks by developing, promoting and advancing network activity.
- To maintain and develop the Equality and Inclusion pages of the Trust’s website and to support the communication and consultation process in relation to equality and inclusion.
- To undertake administrative duties as directed by the Associate Director for Equality and Inclusion to support the integrated language and communication support services. This will include operational support to the team including implementing the invoicing process.
- To accurately input data onto the computer systems and maintain interpreter usage database.
- Produce a range of documents using Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel directed by Associate Director for Equality and Inclusion.
- To audit, monitor and facilitate the operational delivery of the interpreter service e.g. clarity and supporting the authorisation for processing of invoices, collection of monthly interpreter activity reports.
Decisions and judgements
- To propose and draft policies, for approval by Equality and Inclusion Lead that will promote good practice and achieve compliance with the Equality legislation and NHS directives and complies with the Trust’s strategic objectives including the workforce and quality priorities.
- To provide a signposting service to staff and students to help resolve equality and diversity issues at an early stage and to support HR operational teams in handling more complex individual cases, providing guidance on key equality issues to ensure cases are handled appropriately and sensitively in line with Trust policies and
- To support the preparation of committee reports, minutes and associated documentation within required time scales to committee members and other attendees.
- To report concerns to the Equality & Inclusion Lead regarding all aspects of the equality function and agenda including complaints and compliments.
- Prioritise own workload in order to meet deadlines.
- Able to work on own initiative and without supervision.
- To collect, consider and summarise key facts from completed equality analysis forms and process them for the webpage publication.
- To work with services and teams in the implementation of the equality analysis assessment to ensure that the Trust is aware of its legal duty to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations in its decision making and practice. This will include delivery of the Equality Analysis training package
Communication and relationship
- To support and advise senior colleagues on the legislative requirements related to equality and diversity and help translate this into action under the support of the Equality and Inclusion Lead.
- To work in partnership with Learning Development to plan and deliver equality related training interventions for staff and monitor take up and evaluate content and utilise a range of technologies to promote good practice.
- To work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and with other partners to build the organisation’s competence and reputation in the field of equality and inclusion and share good practice and learning.
- To act as point of contact for information and support on the Accessible Communication and Interpretation services.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times including the sharing of information that is of a sensitive and contentious nature with other professionals.
Physical demands of the job
- Travel to varied locations in order to carry out duties as appropriate.
- Combination of sitting, standing and walking.
- Standard keyboard skills are required to develop reports and action plans.
- Occasional exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances through equality and inclusion events.
- Frequent requirement to concentrate when writing reports such as equality monitoring reports whilst dealing with interruptions and requests from others.
