The sonographers undertake the vast majority of inpatient and portable scans.

The sonographers cover lists in Southmead Hospital and community sites in Cossham, Clevedon hospital and Yate Westgate centre. In addition, the ultrasound team are part of the imaging team in ED, with sonographers scanning A&E and inpatients to facilitate quick diagnosis and treatment. We provide surgical and urology same day emergency care (SDEC) , as well as 2 two week wait clinics daily. In addition, two scan rooms in the early pregnancy unit facilitate timely, high quality care to women at a vulnerable time and support the gynaecology emergency clinic service.

The sonographers at NBT all work work as independent reporting practitioners, with full autonomy for their scans and reports, with the expectation to work to a high standard. We hold regular clinical governance sessions throughout the year to facilitate audit feedback and teaching sessions from consultants or other healthcare professionals.

The benefits you will get from joining our imaging team are a strong commitment from NBT to your individual personal development, the prospect to work with a fantastic and friendly team of peers and a department that is always open to new ideas and suggestions from all team members, providing a collaborative working environment.

Full time hours would be preferred but part time, of course, would be considered.

You would be working for one of the largest NHS Trust in the South West Region providing outstanding medical, surgical and maternity care for a population of approximately half a million people in North Bristol and the surrounding community. With a turnover of £550m and 9000 staff, our clinical teams have built a strong reputation for excellent healthcare.

The Brunel Building at Southmead hospital is one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe offering exemplary care in a beautiful and purpose built environment.

NBT is a center for specialist health services for major trauma, neurosciences, vascular, plastics and burns, orthopaedics and renal services and is also a prestigious, internationally recognised teaching and research organisation providing care regionally and nationally.

If you are from outside the area, Bristol is consistently voted as one of the best places to live in the UK, with a rich history, thriving arts, music, gastronomic and independent retails scenes, excellent transport links and easy access to the spectacular countryside and coastlines of South Wales, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall

All of our sonographers work as independent reporting practitioners, working autonomously but also as an important part of the team with radiologists and the early pregnancy advanced nurse practitioners.

We regularly train student sonographers, ST1 radiology registrars and there are regular opportunities to train in MSK ultrasound.

For full details of the job description and responsibilities please see the job description.

Participation in some weekend ultrasound cover (approximately 3 per year) and occasional late shifts (12noon to 8pm approximately once every 2 weeks) will be required, unless the sonographer has caring responsibilities.

Candidates must hold Post-graduate Diploma in medical ultrasound or equivalent and a BSc in Radiography or equivalent. Applicants must also have a current Health Professions Council (HCPC) registration or be on the RCT (Register of Clinical Technologists).

For informal enquiries or to visit the department, please contact Patricia Ahmed, Ultrasound Modality Lead [email protected].
