Job Description
At North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), the Imaging department provides a comprehensive (mainly non-obstetric) ultrasound service to a wide range of specialities within the hospital and local GP's. Performing a wide range of ultrasound examinations including general abdominal, gynaecology, transplant kidneys, musculoskeletal, small parts, baby hips and early pregnancy ultrasound. The sonographers undertake the vast majority of inpatient and portable scans.
The sonographers cover lists in Southmead Hospital and community sites in Cossham, Clevedon hospital and Yate Westgate centre. In addition, the ultrasound team are part of the imaging team in ED, with sonographers scanning A&E and inpatients to facilitate quick diagnosis and treatment. We provide surgical and urology same day emergency care (SDEC) , as well as 2 two week wait clinics daily. In addition, two scan rooms in the early pregnancy unit facilitate timely, high quality care to women at a vulnerable time and support the gynaecology emergency clinic service.
The sonographers at NBT all work work as independent reporting practitioners, with full autonomy for their scans and reports, with the expectation to work to a high standard. We hold regular clinical governance sessions throughout the year to facilitate audit feedback and teaching sessions from consultants or other healthcare professionals.

Full time hours would be preferred but part time, of course, would be considered.

All of our sonographers work as independent reporting practitioners, working autonomously but also as an important part of the team with radiologists and the early pregnancy advanced nurse practitioners.
We regularly train student sonographers, ST1 radiology registrars and there are regular opportunities to train in MSK ultrasound.

Participation in some weekend ultrasound cover (approximately 3 per year) and occasional late shifts (12noon to 8pm approximately once every 2 weeks) will be required, unless the sonographer has caring responsibilities.
Candidates must hold Post-graduate Diploma in medical ultrasound or equivalent and a BSc in Radiography or equivalent. Applicants must also have a current Health Professions Council (HCPC) registration or be on the RCT (Register of Clinical Technologists).
