We have 2 exciting opportunities for GP Assistants to work at 2 of the Practices in the Surbiton & Chessington PCNs Ltd. These roles will be based in the Merritt Medical Centre, Chessington.
Both of these GP Practices are very friendly, extremely well managed, operate very efficiently and receive superb feedback from patients.
These are permanent, full time positions (Monday – Friday with the occasional need for Saturdays.) The salary/hourly rate is dependant on experience and the range is from £11.50 - £13.00 per hour). These roles are relatively new in the Practices and the tasks are varied and interesting with a combination of administrative and basic clinical duties. The successful candidates will be required to participate in a 6-to-9-month work-based learning programme. Learning will take place in the practice, led, and assessed by a GP mentor and completing online training modules.
The role would best suit someone who has experience of working in a Primary Care/Healthcare setting and/or Health Care Assistant.
The objective of the GP Assistant role is to safely deliver a combination of routine administrative tasks and some basic clinical duties in the general practice setting. The focus being on supporting General Practitioners in their day-to-day management of patients, specifically aimed at reducing the administrative burden, making best use of consultation time and supporting those particularly vulnerable to isolation who are regular attenders at the practice.
The GP Assistant role adds great value to the Practice and benefits include:
- improve patient access and release highly qualified staff to concentrate on treating and managing patients with more complex conditions
- improve patient flow within surgery hours, increasing the time efficiency of appointments, and reduction of waiting times; supporting patient experience by ‘translating’ or reiterating information from the GP
- reduce time spent by GPs on managing correspondence
Key Responsibilities:
Administration:
· You will act as a key liaison between the admin team, NHS services and patients to promote safe and efficient care.
· Assist in the management and uploading of information relating to safeguarding documentation and audit.
· Maintain and monitor emails relevant to the GP and patient care.
· Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions.
· Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
· Monitoring and assisting the GPs in managing, prioritising, and actioning tasks.
· Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
· Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments.
· Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP ensuring the patient has everything they need and is aware of the need to provide accurate and concise information to the GP.
· Completing basic (factual) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
Clinical
- Phlebotomy and ECGs (for example when needed acutely during a consultation with a GP)
· Observations and take a basic history. If the GPA is working with the on call GP they could support by bringing down patients needing F2F review, taking observations and a basic history, before handing over to the GP/clinician,
- Care plan reviews e.g. dementia reviews and learning disability annual health checks. The GPA could complete much of the care plan with the individual and then handover any medical issues needing further discussion
- Use of a dermatoscope to take pictures for uploading to the record and onward review by a GP/clinician
