Making informed decisions while taking into account all economic, environmental, social, and political aspects is also paramount in paving the way to a more sustainable future. Based in the United States and Europe, the Energy Economics team focuses on quantitative and economic analysis of energy markets. We provide expert advice to clients on investment valuation, risk management, decarbonization strategies, renewable and storage integration, and market competition issues to support critical decision-making based on decades of experience in the energy industry. Our clients include C-level executives at utilities and independent power producers, inside and outside counsels, and investment firms.
We are looking for a highly motivated entry-level Analyst to join J.S. Held’s Energy Economics practice in London, Washington, D.C., or Boston. Our flexible work environment allows employees to work remotely a few times a week and/or on a case-by-case basis.
The ideal candidate will be committed to establishing a career in the energy sector with a focus on decarbonization and regulatory issues. They will be a self-starter who takes initiative and is enthusiastic about the energy sector, as well as being analytically-minded and having a proven record of carrying out research and quantitative analysis of the highest standard. They will be committed to personal growth and development aided by a wide range of supporting programs which the firm offers.
This role requires flexibility as the successful candidate will, on rare occasion, be required to work outside normal working hours, including weekends and public holidays, as the requirements of projects may dictate.
Responsibilities
- Perform day-to-day tasks on projects such as:
- Identifying potential decarbonization actions and assessing how they can be reliably and economically implemented
- Assessing infrastructure investment strategies to support renewable integration
- Energy market design and reform
- Economic analyses to support M&A transactions in the power market sector
- Process and analyze large amount of economic and financial data using spreadsheets or computer programs
- Ensure high quality and accuracy of work products
- Develop and present client-ready findings in the form of written reports, verbal presentations or graphics
- Support research related to and drafting of project proposals
- Keep up to date on energy industry news
- Contribute to identifying and developing resources useful for the development of the Energy Economics practice
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or any other relevant field
- Demonstrated interest in the energy industry
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle and manage a number of different time-sensitive matters simultaneously
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Ability to work independently on assignments
- Working well in a team environment
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) is a plus but is not required
- Familiarity with specific energy markets topics (e.g., electric market structure, hydrogen, renewable intermittency, role of storage, etc.)
