Your mission:

The CSM function consists of wide range of responsibilities mainly divided into two parts:

a) regulatory compliance and advocacy
b) sustainability value creation in marketing and sales processes

The time allocation between the two key areas is approx. 50 – 50%

  • With respect to regulatory compliance and advocacy, particular focus is on regulatory control of products and services on matters affecting energy efficiency, ‘eco-design’, and end of life management of Epson products
    • In this area significant focus is on post Brexit regulatory compliance
    • This area includes preparation of various (quantitative and qualitative) Extended Producer Responsibility Reports to collective schemes and governmental authorities
    • Management and maintenance of various management systems (ISO 14401/9001, SDG, etc)
  • With respect to Sustainability value creation in marketing and sales processes, a particular focus is on supporting internal and external stakeholders (Epson staff members, channel partners, corporate users, end users, journalists) with the sustainability value creation of Epson products and services
    • This includes a wide range of activities such as speaking and educating stakeholders, being Epson’s sustainability ambassador internally and externally, engaging with communities and organisations, speaking at events, etc
    • The CSM is also responsible to support and accompany sales and marketing staff to key customer visits and present Epson’s Sustainability credentials and Environmental Vision

Occasional travel (approximately 5 days/month) is expected within UK and Ireland, as well as occasional travel (several times per year) in Europe.

What you will do:

  • Provide support on CS matters and projects to Epson Europe’s Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs, to product management groups in Seiko Epson Corporation, especially related to post Brexit and Epson Europe, and to sales teams in Epson UK
  • CS reporting on broad range of financial and non-financial/qualitative measures to ensure that the requirements of best practice and Seiko Epson Company Policy are met
  • To act as an agent of change within the organization. An important element of the role is to ensure that the entire workforce recognises their own contribution to improve environmental and CS performance as part of the business strategy
  • Manage Epson’s compliance in UK and affiliated countries with environmental legislation and other forms of regulation or commitments accepted or subscribed to by Epson, and take appropriate action when required
  • Coordinate national CS project and activities
  • Having good understanding and practical experience in sustainability topics related to the IT industry in chemicals, plastics, eco-design, etc
    • Track regulatory developments relating to the broad classification of environmental matters especially with respect to the Circular Economy
    • Represent Epson to government authorities, in trade associations and inter-company alliances concerned with Environmental and CS matters
    • Advise Epson Europe and Seiko Epson Corporation, in implementing new legislation within Epson
  • Promote compliance within Epson UK Ltd. with the requirements of Epson’s environmental policy, ISO standards 14001 and 9001 and Epson’s own environmental procedures and SDG certification
  • Oversee and comply with Epson’s participation in ‘schemes’ of various kinds relating to the recovery and recycling of waste product and to associated reporting requirements. This requires preparation of precise quantitative and qualitative extended producer responsibility reports on WEEE, packaging, batteries, lamps, plastic packaging tax, etc
  • Engage and manage external contractors
  • Report any anomalies to Epson UK Management and Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs

What we ask for:
  • Strong communication skills, experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders on CS matters
  • Drive, self-reliance, and a structured approach
  • Technical education providing adequate academic and practical understanding of the issues affecting or ‘eco-design’, chemical and plastics matters or education in environmental management - at least Bachelor’s degree level
  • Experience within industry (ideally at least 5 years)
  • Good theoretical understanding of and demonstrated experience with the regulatory and legislative processes within Europe/UK as it affects environmental matters
  • Experience in communicating and negotiation with government officials and inter-company alliances is required

We are keen to hear from you even if you don’t match all listed requirements, but you identify with our brand and passion for innovation.
