Here at Dunelm, our Finance teams support our trading teams to make the best commercial decisions, collates customer transactions, balances the books, and manages procurement. We also analyse financial data to identify patterns, trends and opportunities that we can use to help us grow.
Want to dive into the ever-changing, always-business-critical world of Finance at Dunelm? Dunelm have an exciting opportunity for two interns to join their busy Finance team this summer. As a summer intern, you will be given a 12-week project/task to complete for the relevant business area you will be supporting.
During your 12 weeks…
During your internship you will have the opportunity to experience a range of key departments where you will learn more about how crucial the Finance team are at Dunelm. Different departments include;
Financial Accounting/ Management Accounts:
- Be involved with Month End reporting and variance analysis
- Understand balance sheet reconciliations and the importance behind them
- Be exposed to investigation and analysis within Financial Accounting
Financial Operations:
- Dive into the world of banking which includes reconciliation, customer service
queries, Loomis change queries and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
- Ensuring we pay our suppliers both accurately and on a timely basis, including
carrying out supplier statement reconciliations, investigating any anomalies such as
prices differences or good received but not invoiced, and ad hoc analysis.
- Get involved with Non Stock processes which includes mailboxes, processing,
statement reconciliation and expense queries.
Tax:
- Jump into the world of tax including tax computation, VAT analysis, research &
development return & product file review.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
- Assist with the forecasting, budgeting and strategic planning processes
- Support the external communication of our financial performance to our
shareholders
- Get involved in analysis of macro-factors and how they could impact Dunelm’s
operation.
Business Finance:
- Provide insight and analysis into business performance
- Dive into planning for the short term and long term (e.g. buying or supply chain)
- Support decision making and investment appraisal
You could also be exposed to:
Deliverables Liaison:
- Be involved with attending all catch up meetings & chase people on deliverables as
well as organising the deliverables review sessions- seeing first-hand what an audit
process looks like
Annual Reports:
- Collating numbers for the front half of the Annual Report and co-ordinate back up
information for audit purposes.
- Be exposed to the sustainability analysis for Annual Report and regulatory
requirements.
What we are looking for:
- Passion for Finance
- Currently enrolled in a BSc or MSc or graduated.
- Able to demonstrate a clear desire to pursue Finance/ Accounting as a career
- Strong self-management skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to deadlines.
- Strong organisational skills
- Good written communication skills
- Comfortable working with limited direction
- Proven ability to work across organisations with effective communications
- A self-starter, able to demonstrate high levels of initiative and motivation
- Excellent interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills: the ability to effectively interact with others
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as take initiative independently.
