About the Trust

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest, busiest, and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in Sheffield, as well as specialist care for patients from further afield.

What you’ll be responsible for:

· Recognise the forms in which spiritual need manifests itself in individuals.

o For example:

o celebration, hope, preservation of dignity.

o guilt, the need for forgiveness, the question ‘Why?’, searching for meaning, the need to resolve unfinished business

· Maintain the processes and protocols by which referrals are made to and from the chaplaincy service and monitor these for effectiveness.

· Discern, assess and meet the needs of individuals displaying unhelpful manifestations of spirituality or religion

· Apply relevant local and national policies or guidelines and collaborate with other members of the chaplaincy and healthcare teams to incorporate these into practice.

The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above

You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:

· An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS

· Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times

· A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

You’ll have the following skills/experience:

· Experience in a role of pastoral care.

· Effective performance as a healthcare chaplain. professionally supervised clinical practice as a designated healthcare chaplain that must include:

i. on-call duties

ii. neonatal care

iii. palliative and end of life care

b. Capability of dealing with ethical issues related to chaplaincy practice

c. Experience of preparing and delivering training material on spiritual and pastoral care.

· Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work collaboratively and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues
