Job summary

The Stroke Service on QE site can offer an exciting development opportunity. We are recruiting to a secondment in the role of Stroke Nurse Practitioner (SNP).

The successful candidates will initially complete a competency programme as SNP at Band 6, which takes approximately 3 months, and then work within the role at B7.

The SNP is a highly specialist role within a team based QEH located within the Hyper Acute Stroke Service. They deliver a comprehensive stroke nursing service for potential stroke patients, who present via The Emergency Department, telephone referral or internal referral.

The SNP will respond to all stroke alerts and referrals and will work as part of the rapid response team to support thrombolysis and the regional thrombectomy team.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The SNP team will:

1.Work a within a 24/7 rota.

2.Attend the ED, Admissions Unit, CT department, TIA assessment area or any Inpatient environment in order to assess all new patients as they arrive or are identified as needing a stroke team review.

3.Support stroke care delivery across the pathway.

4.Will be involved in research activity, educational opportunities and MDT meetings.

The SNP role is a Band 7 role and is highly specialised. The competency programme will allow applicants who do not have all the skills and knowledge to start at Band 6 and work supervised until this is complete. Once completed, which is expected to take 3 months depending on prior experience and knowledge, they will transition to Band 7.
