The team of District Stewards and Highway Inspectors sits within the Network Management team based at Daish Way, Newport. Dedicated to each of the Island's districts, the District Stewards provide a visible presence, contact and link, between the highway service and local communities, acting as the eyes and ears for Island Roads.
Purpose of the role and your responsibilities;
- Develop & maintain communication channels with stakeholders, organisations and local residents to address any concerns
- Liaise with Town & Parish Councils, Chamber of Commerce, private land owners, shopkeepers, traders, local schools, Police Officers, other community groups and the general public
- Undertake walked and driven highway inspections, NRSWA inspections and enquiries
- Complete visual arboricultural inspections
- Monitor the condition of the highway network, acting as the eyes and ears for Island Roads across the Island
- Monitor the cleanliness of the network
- Gather evidence relating to red and green claims on the network
- Organising an effective response to emergencies through the operations hub
- Complete safety, service and network integrity inspections
- Actively foster a positive employee morale which will ensure our teams around the network present a professional image to the general public
Formal qualifications required;
Essential
- Good secondary education
- Effective communication including a good telephone manner
- Time management and organisation skills
- ICT literacy
- Accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to undertake long periods of walking
- Must hold a valid full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Trained and accredited highway safety inspector
- NRSWA supervisor accreditation
- Knowledge of highway asset management systems
- Knowledge and / or experience of NRSWA / Highways Act legislation
- Experience of highway safety inspections
- Knowledge of statutory obligations affecting the service
- Arboricultural experience
