The main purpose of this role is close working within Northern Control and the Engineering depots to deliver the Northern train plan. You will lead the process of maintenance planning and ensure at all times that units in traffic are reported and managed in line with the Safety Management Systems Procedures. You will also manage any unit failures with the required expertise to identify and solve problems rapidly to minimize the disruption to Northern customers and deliver key performance indicators in line with Engineering requirements.
Main duties of this role include:
- Proactive management of the maintenance planning process to ensure that vehicles are presented on depot in accordance with the specification (e.g. Mileage, time or condition) for maintenance requirements
- Ensuring that all defects are recorded in an accurate manner through the fleet database and the communication of timely information
- Provision of technical guidance to Northern Rail Staff
- Lead the attention given to Northern Vehicles that are reported with faults in traffic, and direct station and depot based staff as necessary
- Carry out the riding of units with problematic faults and attend failures in traffic as necessary.
About you:
- An engineering background
- Practical ability and understanding of Northern and third party fleet types
- Ability to make good engineering and management decisions on day to day matters when under pressure
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Proven record of ability to work on own initiative with some successful man management experience
