Job Description

This is a Senior Management position at London City Airport (LCY) and will report to the Head of Corporate Affairs. The Head of Media & Communications at LCY will be responsible for leading LCY's media management, Internal and Community communications.

The ideal candidate will be ambitious, dynamic, adaptable and proactive and be able to work in a small, tight-knit team supporting the Leadership and Executive Teams.

Purpose of Role

  • To protect and enhance London City Airport’s reputation in the press.
  • To support LCY’s commercial team by promoting LCY’s USP as London’s fastest airport experience and most centrally located airport in the capital.
  • To deliver exceptional internal and external communications to staff, business partners, local community and other stakeholders.
  • To work closely with the Head of Corporate Affairs to support LCY’s corporate affairs activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

Media

  • To manage and lead the day-to-day running of LCY’s media & communications and manage LCY’s media agencies – supporting the implementation of LCY’s Corporate Affairs strategy and plan.
  • Manage LCY’s media engagement, including managing relationships with key journalists, proactively pitching news stories, overseeing media interviews and dealing with reactive press enquiries.
  • To manage and develop press content, including writing/ distributing press releases and where appropriate, support with research, photography and filming. You will also be responsible for uploading press releases and images to LCY’s media centre.
  • Work closely with the commercial department and our airlines to promote new routes &/or new airlines, including supporting on press trips.
  • You will be responsible for LCY’s media monitoring and Daily News Briefing, supported by LCY’s media agency and media monitoring services.
  • You will be responsible for LCY’s Issues and Crisis PR management, working closely with the Head of Corporate Affairs and Incident Response Team (IRT).
  • You will be expected to be available outside of ‘usual’ business hours to deal with press enquiries, IRT and events.
  • You will manage LCY’s corporate social media, working closely with LCY’s marketing and operational teams who manage all marketing and operational/ passenger related social media content and passenger enquiries.
  • Where appropriate, you will advise and update LCY’s Leadership & Executive Teams and Board members regarding important media and PR matters.
  • Where appropriate, you will work with LCY’s trade & industry bodies on priority issues and events related to media/ communications. This may involve travel.

External community communications

  • Responsible for supporting LCY’s annual and quarterly community correspondence and newsletter (which is drafted and managed by the community team, but reviewed and overseen by the Head of Media & Communications).

Internal

  • Responsible for developing and distributing LCY’s programme of internal communications including weekly updates, blogs, All Staff briefings, Intranet updates, newsletters and uploading material to LCY’s intranet home page.


Skills and experience

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Extensive experience of working in media and communications,
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with a strong understanding of UK media
  • Demonstrated experience in journalism or PR and social media
  • Crisis Management experience
  • Strong presentation skills, including present to senior stakeholders.
  • media interviews

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in aviation, transport or infrastructure of national significance – and relationships with transport/ travel correspondents.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
