Job Description
Our aim is to dramatically increase our online sales. To achieve this you would be responsible for managing our ecommerce website (user experience, SEO, loading content etc) and driving increased traffic to it. The website is built on Wordpress using Woocommerce; you would make all the content changes and the technical side is looked after by someone else.
The role is home based but you would need to come to the factory in Devon c. once a month. It is part time, on average 2 days a week with more in the winter and less in the summer as our business is seasonal, driven by gift occasions like Christmas, Mother’s Day etc. Much of the work can be planned in advance, but you would need to be available to make small changes within a few hours on any working day.
Willie’s Cacao
Willie’s Cacao makes some of the best chocolate in the world, most unusually ‘bean to bar’ from the world’s great single estate cacaos. We sell in 30 countries everywhere from top department stores to supermarkets like Waitrose and increasingly online.
Willie grew up living self-sufficiently on an island off Southern Ireland, and later bought a cocoa farm in Venezuela which he replanted and where he lived for 10 years. This explains why we make everything from scratch using 100% natural ingredients, and why we buy our beans direct from the farmers at a higher premium than Fair Trade.
The role
1) Managing the website
· Content management: updating copy, images, meta data for gift occasion campaigns and promotions. Eg for Christmas you’d make a Christmas page with relevant gifts, and update banners, product info, images and meta data across the site. Ad hoc loading new products and changing prices, delivery charges, blog etc..
· Monitoring page / product performance and recommending / making changes: main review is post Xmas to see what changes to make for all year round site and for the following Xmas.
· Optimising user experience and conversion.
· Planning and implementing search engine optimisation strategies
2) Driving traffic to the website
· With the rest of the team, creating a co-ordinated plan across all channels and developing all the various activities.
· Regular mailchimp emails. Increase sales eg by more detailed targeting
· Growing database of Chocolate Lovers eg via collaborations with other brands and influencers
· Selective engagement with key journalists and responding to responsesource requests particularly around Xmas to get into key articles / best of guides
· Growing social media following and engagement
· Assessing potential role for paid media
· Tracking sales performance and conversion rates of activities and optimising. Managing spend and improving ROI.
We are looking for someone with ecommerce and broad digital marketing experience
· A proven track record in B2C digital marketing and ecommerce. It would be ideal if you had worked for a similar challenger food / drink company, but not essential.
· Good experience with: Woocommerce and Wordpress; experience with Oxygen Builder or similar page builder plugins for Wordpress; google analytics and search console; semrush, content writing for SEO; google ads
· Skilled at photo editing using Photoshop or similar and an understanding of web-friendly formats and compression for images.
· Experience with Mailchimp or similar email marketing; social media, brand collaborations
· Strong analysis and excel skills.
· Naturally creative and able to come up with innovative and inspiring ideas.
· Someone with a genuine love of food and flavour who has a natural affinity for Willie’s Cacao such that they can inspire the same in other people.
· Energetic, active and ambitious. Organised enough to juggle lots of projects. High personal standards and attention to detail.
· You may have a digital marketing degree or you could have learnt on the job with c. 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
· Fluent English speaking and writing

- Confirm you can be available as follows: c. 10 days a month Sept-Jan; c. 6-8 days a month in February to June, c. 4 days a month in July August. These are rough estimates as it would depend on exactly what work needs doing and how fast you do it. Work would be agreed advance on a rolling 3 month basis so you could plan it in. You need to be always available to talk on the phone to deal with day to day issues and to be able to do small changes on any working day
