The Child Weight Management Nutritionist Clinical Lead is responsible for contributing to the delivery of Haringey GP Federations Child Weight Management Service, under the supervision of the associate medical director. The role will include leading the clinical team, running face-to-face clinics, liaising with schools and VCSOs, and helping to oversee the interventions on offer to children and their families. The role is paramount in ensuring the service is appropriate in meeting the needs of children, families and the wider community.
Main duties of the job
The aim of this post is to provide strong leadership so the team can work to identify and offer interventions to children who are overweight, with a view to improving their lifestyle and overall health for both the short and longer-term. The team will work with local statutory, private and voluntary providers, and users to develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all sections of the local community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion.
The post holder will work closely with local community services and both the primary care:
- Increasing the identification and intervention of children age 5-12yrs who are identified as overweight or very overweight as per NCMP data on record with school nurses
- Rapidly identifying those severely overweight or with multiple complex needs to ensure they are appropriately managed in secondary care
- Improving engagement of local schools and primary care services with the new child weight management pathway, alongside the Healthy Schools Lead
- Supporting clinical support workers to signpost patients and their families to local voluntary sectors
- Helping to facilitate lifestyle intervention programmes

Job responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity for Haringey to lead transformational work to improve the health and well-being of the school-age population. The role will require a motivated individual who is keen to make a change in an area faced with vast health inequalities. The role will be office-based and patient-facing, the latterin primary care, educational establishments and community centres.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide clinical leadership of the Child Weight Management Service
To support the patient-facing clinicians
To work alongside the administration team in ensuring the service best meets the needs of the local population
ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPERVISION
The post holder will ultimately be accountable to the CEO of Haringey GP Federation and will be line managed by the associate medical director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To support the clinical and non-clinical staff to deliver a safe and successful service to the local target population
To build further relationships with community organisations, school nursing and hard-to-reach patient groups to make the service as inclusive and easily accessible as possible
To manage the clinical team so that the highest standard of care is delivered to all patients
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Managerial
- Provide support to clinical and non-clinical staff through weekly meetings, 1:1s and ad hoc meetings
- Retain insight of targets and team goals so that these can be achieved in a timely manner, problem-solved where needed, and communicated clearly to commissioners
- Maintain good relations with the ICB and Public Health, with a view to continuing to shape and expand the service
- Provide clear communication with all associate organisations, local schools, school nurses, community centres and GP surgeries
- Ensure employee safety and patient safety in all workplace settings
Clinical
- Utilise clinical experience and expertise to help field queries from the clinical team, this can be of a clinical or a safeguarding nature
- Ensure all members of the team are comfortable with escalation of any safeguarding issues
- Utilise clinical guidelines to promote evidence-based best practice
- Escalate complex cases to secondary care where necessary
- Offer a holistic service to patients, notifying relative parties where ongoing or additional care is required
- Ensure safe hand-over of patients to general practice and secondary care where appropriate
- Identify community health needs and participate in the development of patient and family centred strategies to address them
- You will maintain clinical skills through appropriate continuing professional development (CPD) in line with annual appraisal
- You will work in line with all organisation policies and procedures, including human resources, safeguarding children, etc.
Professional
- You will maintain your professional registration, undertaking revalidation and appraisal as required
- You will promote and provide evidence-based care that complies with the relevant legal and policy frameworks
- You will work collaboratively with multiple health and social care team, and voluntary organisations
- Undertake statutory and mandatory training as stipulated by the CWM Service
- Demonstrate clinical leadership
- Respect patient confidentiality at all times and do not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role
Training and development
- Undertake a variety of research and analysis tasks associated with the improvement of clinical care. This can be done via the following means:
Audit of clinical practice
Significant event analysis
Review of relevant literature
- Encourage and contribute to team learning within the CWM Service
- Lead clinical meetings
- Work closely with other clinical and administrative staff to continue to improve the service
Administration
- Work in accordance with internal administrative systems, relating to but not limited to the management of clinical data
- Liaise with voluntary care sector organisations and Public Health to build upon relations and shape the future of the service

The post holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients, their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Federation as a business organisation.

Post holders must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and other health service business in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. Post holders must not, without prior permission, disclose any information regarding patients or staff.
