The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is a world leading hydrographic agency that has been helping people safely navigate the oceans for over 200 years. Over the next few months, the UKHO will be building a data analytics team to answer key business questions to ensure we keep serving our stakeholders and customers into the future. These might be questions about our customers and their needs, the way we make our products, or insights into our data sources. This is an exciting opportunity for collaborative and inquisitive people to have an impact on how we function and gain experience in a thriving field.

As a Junior Data Analyst you will be encouraged to get familiar with all aspects of data analysis, for example data gathering, transformation and visualisation. Supported by more senior members of the team, you will work together with stakeholders, data scientists and data engineers to deliver insights in either ad-hoc analyses or using dashboards. There will be opportunities for learning and growth within a friendly team environment.

As this is a developmental role, and you will be supported in your progression to a Data Analyst role (with a salary of £34,369 per annum), this is expected to take six months to two years depending on performance.

• Gathering data from a variety of sources, including databases (SQL), APIs, files
• Comparing results of various statistical analyses of data
• Selecting most appropriate analytical methods with respect to business question
• Connecting data into dashboards or other means of sharing results

The team are flexible where they work with some members coming into the office more than others. There are no fixed days in the office.

• Enjoys working collaboratively to answer questions and solve problems
• Knowledge of different data types and relevant data quality issues, e.g. time series, categorical
• Experience with statistical analysis and assessing their results
• Experience of using business intelligence tools or a programming language
• Familiar with good data visualisation practises
• Desire to learn and develop towards the next grade
