Job Description

Motivated and enthusiastic applicants are invited to apply for the post of Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Band 3 to join our dynamic team of experienced Biomedical Scientists and Support staff. The post will be based in the Biochemical Genetics Unit in Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

The Biochemical Genetics Unit provides Newborn Blood Spot Screening for East Anglia, together with metabolic investigations for hospitals within this area and further afield. The laboratory team is committed to providing a friendly, responsive and efficient service, and the successful applicant will need to demonstrate their ability to be a team player.

The CPA accredited and HCPC accredited training laboratory at Addenbrooke's is busy and diverse, processing in excess of 7.5 million tests per year.

You will be involved in a wide variety of duties including data entry using laboratory information management systems, pre-analytical technical duties such as sample centrifuging, pipetting & aliquoting and preparatory work. Other duties will include filing, housekeeping and other general laboratory duties in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice.

Previous laboratory experience would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be provided.

As a minimum, candidates should have good GCSE’s in Science, English and Mathematics, be computer literate, possess good keyboard skills and a have a good basic education and the ability to work under pressure.
