Job Description

I am excited to be advertising for one Band 6 Occupational Therapists to join our established multi-disciplinary team working in the Acute Women’s Service at the Becklin Centre. This is made up of two women’s acute wards.

You will be part of an OT provision which consists of one Band 6 OT, one Band 5 OT, one OTA, and an activity co-ordinator per ward.

We are looking for a skilled, compassionate, and motivated Occupational Therapist who have the desire to work with individuals experiencing an acute episode in their mental health.

You will be supported in your personal and professional development via clinical supervision, appraisal, training and other Continuing Professional Development opportunities.

The post holder will have an active role in shaping and evaluating the OT Pathway across our Acute Inpatient Service. As a service we are in the process of reinitiating the use of MOHO to aid our assessment and screening process. The post holder will bring valued experience and skills to our teams and have the opportunity to share their specialist knowledge in our OT development sessions. We are keen to develop individual staff as well as the OT pathway as a whole and your own individual development needs will be discussed as part of a yearly appraisal.

Whilst the posts are ward based, you will have close links with the Occupational Therapy Team and will work to provide a 7 day service.

Working within the MDT to provide assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. Utilising Occupational Therapy theory and evidence-based practice to provide effective treatment to individuals admitted to the ward. Working autonomously and providing specialist assessments which will form part of team formulations and treatment decisions, and through the use of person-centred interventions enable recovery and support effective discharge from hospital.

In addition to providing 1:1 assessments the post holder will aim to lead on the therapeutic group programme establishing an effective group timetable that facilitates the growth of functional and social skills.

Contribute to on-going service development within the wider OT team. Including supervising of band 5 Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants within the women’s service, delegating responsibilities where appropriate.

This role will be based at either ward 1 or 5 of the Becklin centre. These are both 22 bedded wards for people who present with acute and complex mental health difficulties. Providing 24 hour care to manage risk and promote recovery for clients who have experienced deterioration in their mental state. As well as working alongside an established ward team, you will have opportunity to liaise and network with other AHP’s, including: Dietetics, Physio and SALT.

1. Knowledge, training and experience
To work flexibly over a shift pattern, mainly working day shifts Monday to Friday, with one weekend per month and occasional late shifts as the service requires, working arrangements might on the odd occasion vary to ensure that the service is adequately resourced
Manages and makes judgements regarding clinical work on a day to day basis and is able to delegate as needed
You will be trained in the correct use of any equipment provided to improve Safety and Health within the trust. You are required to use the equipment
Undertake all mandatory training required for the role.
Maintain and produce detailed contemporaneous and accurate records and reports at all times in accordance with agreed procedures.
