Health care Support worker( Paediatric Assessment unit)

Full time Hours

An opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the fast paced team on Charlie’s Day Unit. If this sounds like you, or are you looking for a new challenge we are interested in hearing from you!

You will be expected to support and work along the nursing staff support to ensure that high quality care is delivered to the children and their families that access our service.

It is our responsibility to provide you opportunities and support to develop further skills that will enable you to extend and enhance the role.

Charlie’s Day Unit (CDU) is a children's day assessment at Hampshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Basingstoke site).It provides care for children and young people who are undergoing a range of day case investigations and procedures such as food challenges as part of our allergy service, Oncology, MRI’s under sedation, Paediatric nurse led clinics. CDU also provides triage, assessment and observation for those children referred to the unit by community colleagues because of an acute illness.

The department has closer working relationships with colleagues on the children's ward and in the emergency department where we assist with Paediatric flow through the emergency department.

To support the qualified practitioners in the delivery of a seven day service, this includes:

Providing effective evidence based care for patients referred to the service under the direct supervision of qualified practitioners

To assist in the provision of individualised clinical care for a defined group of patients, under the supervision of the qualified nurse and others in the Health Care Professional Team.

To ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity, compassion and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.

To complete the Band 3 competency framework within the identified time scale

Following the successful completion of the competency framework the Clinical Support Worker will ensure that they act within their sphere of competence at all times and be confident and accountable for their actions

Prioritises own workload following informed choices on both clinical and non-clinical, regularly reporting back to line manager.

Undertake duties where a trained nurse is not required and support the provision of an efficient service across the Acute/Ambulatory units i.e. OPD , inpatient ward and working closely with the Emergency Department .

Undertake various miscellaneous duties to support the team in providing high quality care of children and families.

To adhere to the Trust and local Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy at all times.
