Community Paediatric Dietetics in Neurodevelopmental & STEP

Are you interested in food and nutrition and supporting children, young people and their families in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner in Paediatric Dietetics to join the expanding Children’s Community Therapy Service (CCTS) Dietetic Team.

The post holder will provide skilled support under the direction of a senior dietitian to children and young people with a physical or learning disability with eating and drinking difficulties. The purpose of this post will be to help with both clinical and administrative tasks which are all part of the child’s care. Training and support will be provided.

The Children’s Community Therapy Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Support and Admin staff.

This role will involve the practitioner working with children and young people and their families, groups, schools, communities and with carers across the age range from birth to 18 years old. The therapy will be delivered both virtually and face to face within the local community. The post-holder will also support the dietitians to provide training to other professionals.

Plan and prioritise daily workload and tasks under supervision from the dietitians.

Manage own time efficiently to meet the service requirements.

Assist and support dietitians to carry out assessments and treatments for children and young people in clinics, in the community, mainstream and special schools.

Following instructions from dietitians to autonomously carry out interventions and information gathering for children and young people in clinics, community, mainstream and special schools.

Provide support in the organising, setting up, clinical delivery and tidying/cleaning up afterwards of screening /triage /follow up clinics and therapy groups.

Provide support in the development, organisation, and delivery of training to families and professionals.

Provide support in the development and review of dietetic resources used in therapy and training.

Develop specialist therapy skills and knowledge including completion and regular updates of CCTS Band 4 competencies.

Attend service training both internally and externally as required participating in the team delivery as necessary.

To provide support to dietitians in administrative tasks, ordering supplies and maintaining stock control through specialist systems and recording on spreadsheets.

Collect data and assist with quality assurance procedures, surveys, and audits.

To support clinical staff in maintaining a safe, clean department in line with Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust standards of Infection Control.

Accurately record statistics on activity in line with Trust and Department standards.

Participate in departmental and multiagency meetings as directed.
