Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the University’s Specialist Student Support and Advice Service, within Student Welfare and Support Services (SWSS). The service has a broad and growing portfolio of work which currently covers sexual harassment and violence support, mediation and support for accused students. The Student Support and Advice Lead will ensure delivery of professional and efficient services to students focusing on policy and strategic development.
The post-holder will manage a team of Specialist Caseworkers, an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) and mediators and will provide case oversight for staff in the service in addition to supporting their ongoing personal and professional development. The Service Lead will provide case oversight for staff particularly for high risk cases and supervision for those staff as required.
The post-holder will provide guidance to colleges, contribute to the development of policy and to the design and delivery of training across the collegiate university. They will develop and improve the provision of the service, identifying gaps in provision and develop creative and innovative models of support provision and implementing new service areas, activities and community participation, working closely with other services within SWSS and the wider university, colleges, and external agencies. The post-holder will maintain a detailed knowledge of current government policy and sector practice.
The post-holder will be responsible for their own casework of complex and specialist student work. They will have extensive experience of providing 1-1 support and advice to students, including risk assessment, safety planning and supporting people in crisis. They will have experience of working in a trauma-informed and empowerment centered approach with a demonstrable understanding of the dynamics and impact of student wellbeing across multiple and complex needs.
