Job Description
We’re seeking an Operations Engineering and Facilities Manager to lead and support the Maintenance Management and facilities team, including a multi skilled team of Mechanical, Electrical and Instrument Technicians. The role will require you to maintain, operate safely, and continuously improve the site infrastructure and equipment in accordance with COMAH regulations, and appropriate engineering site standards as well as ensuring that we remain compliant with all the industry regulations such as ATEX, PSSR, COSHH LOLER, PUWER etc.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Lead and embrace safe systems of work and ensure safe working practices are followed by the Maintenance and Facilities Department.
- Recruit, plan and develop resources to meet site maintenance demands from all departments on site and where necessary initiate improved skill sets through training.
- Review all maintenance documentation and standards to ensure they remain compliant, relevant and current.
- Ensure that we hold all critical spares in stock, liaise with the project team and stores when new equipment is introduced.
- Ensure that the department targets and objectives are met. Liaise with the Engineering Planner to produce and make public to the team, Metrics which include, Safety, Quality, MAH and SMI’s.
- Monitor and refresh where appropriate planned preventative maintenance schedules.
- Support other site departments during internal/external Audits from recognised bodies.
- Continue to review expenditure against budget.
- Encourage use of best available techniques to improve maintenance activities
- Implement and enforce good working practices across the engineering teams
- Support the Site Procurement and Maintenance Officer, for contract renewals. Services and costings.
- Lead the implementation of the Maximo CMMS system on the Cramlington site whilst leasing with cross site personnel.
- Drive change to ensure the department is proactive, agile and responsive to the needs of the business.
Skills & Qualification
- Served a nationally recognised engineering apprenticeship with a formal qualification of NVQ4 ONC/HNC/City of Guilds level 4 or equivalent
- Professional engineering certifications would be an advantage
Experience
- 5 year’s working in maintenance within a chemical/pharmaceutical environment.
- Full understanding of working on a COMAH site in a maintenance environment.
- Competent to lead a team of mechanical, electrical and instrument Technicians.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations ATEX, PSSR, COSHH, PUWER etc.
- Familiar with HAZOP, Risk assessments, LOPA.
- Working within a continuous improvement maintenance environment and sound knowledge and understanding of working within a cGMP site or facility would be desirable

The Cramlington Site in Newcastle, United Kingdom, has an established history of cGMP manufacturing services for an array of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), ranging from pilot scale to commercial metric ton scale. The Cramlington Site has more than 100 cubic meter reactor commercial capacity and has been inspected and approved by the MHRA, FDA and other regulatory authorities. The site operates from small scale in the laboratory through to very large manufacturing scale. It also offers chemistry and analytical development services.
