Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Therapy Assistant to join our Integrated Stroke Therapy Team. The successful candidate will be part of a large, busy Hyper-acute and rehabilitation stroke team located in the Primary Stroke Centre at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a motivated, experienced individual who is keen to help shape our in-patient stroke service. The individual needs to enjoy working as part of a team and be able to work alongside other therapy assistants to support occupational therapists and physiotherapists with their patient treatment sessions and non-clinical duties.

Your rolewill be involved in the acute and rehabilitation care of stroke patients, working across both therapy teams demonstrating an adaptable approach to assist in the delivery of holistic rehabilitation whilst meeting a high standard of care set out through national stroke standards and guidelines. You will be expected to manage your own caseload under the supervision and guidance of the qualified therapists and prioritise your day to fit in your non-clinical duties.

We hold a unique position in the Stockport community as the provider of healthcare and we are one of its largest employers.

Our mission is to make a difference every day. Our values are that we care, we respect, and we listen

We believe that the best organisations are those that reflect the communities they serve. We are therefore seeking to improve the diversity of our workforce to make it truly representative of our local population.

We actively encourage applications irrespective of race, age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage & civil partnership, or pregnancy or maternity. Recognising those communities that are underrepresented within our workforce, we would particularly welcome applications from you.

We recognise that flexible working is important. We take requests for flexible working seriously, consider any request we receive and try to work with you, so we can explore if your request may fit with the needs of the service.

The salary for the role is only one part of the excellent package of benefits we offer to you:

The role encompasses working primarily with stroke patients to monitor and review their activities of daily living, carry out stroke specific treatment programmes and contribute to timely and successful discharges. With training, you will accurately complete patient’s clinical notes according to Trust and departmental standards. You will also be able to assist with equipment provision, referrals, maintenance and essential non-clinical duties to support the day to day running of the service. Some non-clinical duties will involve working on computers; therefore, you would need to have good IT skills. The role also requires that the candidate is able to safely move and handle patients and use appropriate equipment, for which training will be provided. The successful applicant will work as part of a very supportive team. We have a positive approach to staff development and they will be supported by their team, receive regular supervision and have the opportunity to attend our established in-service training program.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
