Maintenance Technician
The Role
Hutchison Ports (UK) - Port of Felixstowe is the largest deep-water Port in the UK and to support our continued growth and development we are looking to recruit Maintenance Technicians to join our Engineering Department.
The remit of this role will be to undertake maintenance, repairs, and installation to upgrade, maintain and commission mechanical and electrical installations on all the Port of Felixstowe’s infrastructure. Working across the engineering department to provide assistance with the normal day to day activities as well as new and upcoming projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that electrical / mechanical installations on the Ports plant and equipment are repaired and maintained in a safe, cost-effective manner with minimal operational disruption.
- Diagnose, oversee, and rectify faults on the Ports container handling and material handling equipment as well as workshop equipment to include repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, control and instrumentation faults.
- Prioritising safety and work to meet all the business requirements at the Port of Felixstowe, whilst ensuring the maintenance and installations are managed safely for yourself and others.
- Regular progress reports on all maintenance, installation and commissioning work, updating internal systems to keep Engineering Management and Supervisory staff up to date on current repair work status.
- Ensuring and maintaining that all equipment used is maintained and stored correctly.
- Ensure compliance to all policies, safe code of practice, procedures, standard operating practices, with recommendations for action and continuous improvement.
Who are we looking for?
Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria:
Essential:
- An ONC (Ordinary National Certificate) in Mechanical/Electrical or Automotive Engineering, along with demonstration of a proven practical capability in either mechanical/electrical engineering and/or Heavy vehicle engineering covering the technology of site equipment.
- Able to diagnose complex faults from sometimes limited data and history. Making decisions on whether equipment is safe to operate.
- Up to date knowledge of health and safety requirements and engineering safe codes of practice.
- A proactive individual who can work in a fast-paced environment individually or as part of a team.
- The ability to identify and propose solutions and improvements to existing repair procedures and working practises
Desirable:
- Completion of Advanced Modern Engineering Apprenticeship or similar.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems with installations for plant and other equipment within the Port of Felixstowe or other port environment (i.e. Quay Side Cranes, Rubber Tyre Gentry Cranes and Terminal tractors, to include areas such as electrical distribution, internal combustion engines, automatic transmissions, vehicle control systems, lighting systems, control instrumentation and installations.)
