Job Description

Business Support Officer

Job description

Would you like to be a part of The London Borough of Hounslow, whose diverse workforce are committed to making a positive difference for our residents and visitors by ensuring the quality of our services are maintained to a high standard?

Hounslow Council is an outstanding council serving an outstanding borough. With brilliant, visionary leadership, a dynamic Cabinet and a can-do culture, we’ve built strong partnerships across the borough which have transformed how we serve one of London’s most diverse boroughs. Hounslow is the world in one place, full of potential, but a borough hit hard -socially and economically -by Covid-19. We have stepped up for our residents and businesses like never before.

About The Role

The role is part of the Hounslow Community Safety team that works with the Police, park rangers, neighbour enforcement teams, children’s services, and other agencies in the borough to reduce the crime and anti-social behaviour experienced by its residents.

The postholder will organise and contribute to meetings with these agencies where strategies for dealing with crime and anti-social behaviour in Hounslow are discussed.

The role also includes supporting the planning of early help and intervention services for children and young people in Hounslow, especially for adolescents and young people at risk of criminal or sexual exploitation, trafficking, or other harm.

A key duty is using and maintaining data from many different sources, to help identify priority areas and hotspots so that each agency in the Hounslow partnership can best target their efforts. Hence, one of the most important parts of the job will be gathering data from partners, cleaning it, and then using it to create useful tools such as heatmaps that can highlight emerging trends.

Working as an integral member of a team, the role will involve covering for colleagues if they are unavailable, for example, to attend meetings where important intelligence is shared. The role is an exciting opportunity to build experience working with data and acquire new, highly marketable skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the day to day running of the CSP Database, including responding to queries from its users.

2. Regular attendance at three-times weekly Police Tasking meetings, and weekly Safer Communities Area-based meetings, taking accurate written notes as needed.

3. Administering quarterly Youth Crime Management Board and monthly Adolescent Operational Group meetings.

4. Gathering and sanitising routine datasets for input onto the CSP Database.

Your Skills:

1. Being comfortable working with large and complex datasets.

2. Good communication skills, including being able to work well in a team and with partner agencies.

3. Being good at planning and organising meetings and other events.

4. Being able to draw out important information from meetings.

Professional Qualifications:

1. The successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check.

2. No formal qualification is needed, but the post requires good levels of both numeracy and computer literacy, and the ability to learn quickly. There will be a 30-minute test on a computer prior to the interview.

We Harness the Mix

We value diversity in its broadest sense. We're committed to creating an inclusive culture where everyone is able to be themselves, give of their best and reach their full potential. We believe that a diverse workforce helps us to better understand our communities and deliver the best services for our residents.

We want to receive applications from all regardless of age, gender identity, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, race or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status or social economic background. We want to harness the mix and ensure that everybody can apply and be part of our recruitment processes. We will therefore make reasonable adjustments to accommodate our candidates.
