To be responsible for the delivery of high quality person centered programmes of care to residents, respecting the dignity of each individual and promoting independence.
To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence. The Night Care Assistant will be responsible at night providing a high quality of care to all residents. Care provided by care assistants is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the residents’ own family. The Night Care Assistant will also help to create a safe and caring environment being particularly conscious that the night hours can be a lonely time for the residents.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. To provide an holistic approach to each resident and maintain the highest degree of care for the residents by providing assistance with all matters relating to daily living. This will include attending to personal hygiene needs. Residents may also require assistance with other needs which arise during the night.
2. Undertake to ensure the best possible level of personal comfort and privacy to all individual residents.
3. Share in recreational activities for residents, ensuring that residents always chose their own time to retire for the night. This also ensures that the resident keeps some measure of control over their own lives.
4. Relate to all residents in an age-appropriate manner with respect for advancing years. At all times, residents should be approached with politeness and courtesy, remembering always that this is their home.
5. Ensure that verbal and written reports are given to the person on duty in the morning. Be aware of the resident as a ‘whole person’ and help to implement Care Plans.
6. To assist and motivate residents to live as independently as possible.
7. The nature of the Care Assistant post may mean s/he will be party to delicate confidential and private details of people’s lives. S/he has a responsibility to keep this privileged information confidential.
8. Extend a warm welcome to visitors and provide privacy for residents with their relatives and friends.
9. To provide an efficient response to emergency calls received from residents, their families and members of staff.
10. Answer the telephone in a polite and professional manor and take, record, and transmit messages accurately.
11. To be aware of the homes Policies and guidelines at all times, including Health & Safety requirements, and all emergency procedures.
12. To read and write reports; take part in staff and residents’ meetings and in training activities as directed.
13. Be responsible and accountable for all residents who need to go to hospital during the night. Always follow relevant procedures.
14. To provide an efficient response to all calls made through the Nurse Call System.
15. To work in accordance with duty rosters to cover staff sickness/holidays.
16. Ensure residents’ personal belongings are safeguarded.
17. To report to the Manager/Senior any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a resident.
18. To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Level 2 applicants will receive £11.10 per hour, level 3 will receive £11.20 per hour.
