About the role

Working closely with the Special Collections Manager, Museum Archivist and LA Moves Manager, this role will lead in the preparation of specified Library and Archives special collections for relocation. Items requiring relocation will include manuscript and archival material, photographic and artwork collections (incl. sculpture) in additional to printed items.

The role will audit, barcode and list (as appropriate) specific collections to ensure their relocation from Wandsworth to South Kensington is undertaken effectively. The post will work with the Unlocked Paper Conservator to assess and undertake rehousing of the collections to prepare for the move. The work will further enhance the discoverability of the collections while ensuring their physical preservation and continued usage in the future.

About you

The successful candidate should hold a postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science or Archives recognised by CILIP or ARA (or equivalent). Experience of creating and amending catalogue records to national and international standards with knowledge and/or experience of RDA, MARC 21, and ISAD(G). Experience of collections management and working with special collection materials, including photographic materials and mixed media archival collections their handling and care, conservation and preservation considerations and an appreciation of the metadata requirements for them.

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to quickly establish effective working relationships with colleagues and users and have a positive attitude. The ideal candidate will also work independently as well as in a team to deliver agreed objectives.

The post holders will be based at South Kensington and at our store in Wandsworth, South London.
