Job Description

Full and part time hours available.

We are looking for enthusiastic healthcare support workers to join our team. You will need to demonstrate evidence of a previous caring role with children or babies

You will prioritise you own work load; build good working relationships with the MDT, as well as children, young people and their families; and rise to the challenge of working within a diverse and ever-changing environment.

To work as a skilled member of the ward nursing team, providing a high standard of holistic, family centred care to children / young people and families.

To communicate effectively at all levels with the multi-disciplinary team.

To manage and maintain a child-focused environment where play occurs naturally.

To use theoretical knowledge and evidence based practice to assess, plan,
implement and evaluate therapeutic play interventions.

To document care interventions and outcomes in patient notes.

To develop skills and knowledge and be responsible for own practice.

To promote an awareness of the emotional needs of children in hospital and the importance of play, within the multi-disciplinary team.

Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.

Carry out observations and recording of the patients vital signs in recognition of own knowledge and skill/competence, and in accordance with local protocols.

Report any recordings outside of agreed parameters to a Registered Nurse in addition to making written record on both the observation chart and in Patient Profile and general condition.

To support the delivery of family centred care.

To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions using reflective practice to achieve best outcomes.

To work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to meet the overall care plan for children / young person who have complex needs or life limiting condition.

To use play, interpersonal and preparation skills to help child / young person work through fears / anxieties and co-operate with intrusive procedures.

To make or adapt play equipment for use in therapeutic and or procedural
preparation.

In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team act as an advocate for the child's / young person's family, providing them with information and support during times of stress and in crisis.
