Job Description

UCLH are seeking to appoint a 10 PA locum Consultant Medical Oncologist in GI and the Acute Oncology Service.

The post holder will be working alongside an excellent team of Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals all committed to provide the highest quality patient care, innovative service models and excellence in education and training.

This new post is an exciting opportunity for a medical oncologist to join the GI team at UCLH. The postholder will be responsible for the delivery of systemic therapy for patients with GI cancers, attending MDTs and taking part in outpatient clinics and ward rounds.

The postholder will participate in the GI oncology attending ward rota at UCLH as well as UCLH on call rotas (freq 1:25 or thereabouts). An interest in cholangiocarcinoma would be useful for this position.

Oesophageal cancer - this service is provided currently by 3 oesophago-gastric surgeons who provide the expanded service for the network. The service is supported by a dedicated a Oesophago-gastric CNS team, an endoscopic ultrasound service and a comprehensive interventional service for palliation of obstructing tumours.

The HPB surgical services are based at the Royal Free Hospital but UCLH remains a major referral centre for the diagnosis and management of hepatobiliary malignancy and leads international clinical trials and research for biliary tract cancers.

The Colorectal clinical service is served by 8 surgeons and 3 clinical nurse specialists. UCLH hosts the screening centre for north London and provides a major clinical service.

The Carcinoma of Unknown Primary (CUP) service at UCH offers a Specialist MDT service for the London Cancer area and leads on NCRI initiatives as well as international studies for CUP patients.

The team of GI Oncologists who work across all the sub specialties in GI are international leaders in clinical trials and laboratory-based research at UCL; with strong collaborative links with their partners including the Francis Crick Institute. Trials are also in set up to integrate with the the UCLH Proton Beam Facility which opened in 2021. The team also work very closely with the Whittington hospital and often provide support and advice to the respective clinical team and attend mutual MDTs.

The postholder will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team including Consultants, CNS’, middle grade trainees and fellow and the administrative support team.

They will support the team’s overall workload with several outpatient clinics a week as well as participated in the Acute Oncology service rota and contribution to the GI attending rota and research work.
