Job description

Post Ref: CC559

  • Do you enjoy working with people, possess excellent communication skills?
  • Are you passionate about values, human rights, equality, and inclusion?
  • Do you have motivation and resilience, and enjoy a challenge?
  • Are you looking for a work-based, paid route into a social work career?

If this is you, then we are excited to offer 4 social work degree apprenticeship posts starting in September 2023.

As an apprentice in Social Work, you will complete a fully funded Level 6 Degree in Social Work through Leeds Beckett University whilst making a positive difference in people’s lives through a paid role in Calderdale Children’s and Adults’ Services.

During the programme:

  • You will explore social oppression and advocacy, developing skills in anti-oppressive practice to ensure you get the best from those you work with.
  • You will learn about people and relationships, attachment, and separation-loss theories, as well as human development.
  • You will develop the ability to consistently exercise professional autonomy and initiative in decision-making.
  • You will develop the ability to critically reflect, adapt and modify your future practice based on new insights, and apply knowledge, values, and skills.
  • You will explore different frameworks for working in partnership with people who access support and services. These frameworks will enable you to assess, plan, implement and review effective support and interventions and evaluate their outcomes.
  • You will reflect on what you bring personally to your work and how this may influence your practice and consider wellbeing strategies to support you in your work.

You will need:

  • Some care experience that demonstrates your ability to assess and understand the needs of people who may need support.
  • Level 2 Mathematics and English qualification or an approved equivalent.
  • Accredited qualifications that are equivalent to 120 UCAS Points (UCAS Calculator)
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship programme.

Social work in Calderdale is all about supportive, trusting relationships – with colleagues, partners and those who access our services. As a career, social work is varied, interesting and rewarding. You will be welcomed into a friendly and supportive working environment, underpinned by our values and culture and with continuous professional development opportunities.

We have flexible working opportunities including flexitime, remote and hybrid working – dependant on your job role and service need. You will be provided with a generous annual leave entitlement and gain access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Although, on completion of the apprenticeship, there is no guarantee of a permanent position, you will be encouraged and supported to apply for any of our vacant positions.
