Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives and experiences that help to build our global learning community.

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences provides a vibrant and innovative environment for innovation and is made up of five academic departments: Rehabilitation and Sport Sciences, Medical Science and Public Health, Nursing Science, Midwifery and Health Sciences, and Social Sciences and Social Work. Located in the newly commissioned, state of the art Bournemouth Gateway Building, we offer an outstanding range of facilities coupled with access to the most up to date technology and equipment. The vision of the Department of Rehabilitation and Sport Sciences is to provide high-quality education and research that supports excellence to the benefit of all those who access sport, exercise and rehabilitative health care services, nationally and globally. The department is a supportive community of staff, practitioners, students and service users who work in partnership.

We are investing in exciting new positions to further align our teaching and research portfolio toward BU’s 2025 strategic investment areas and applications are invited for the role of either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy. To succeed in the role, you will be able to demonstrate a contemporary knowledge and understanding of current practice in Occupational Therapy. You will be enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy, and you will contribute to education delivery, including programme management as required, across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will be engaged in high quality research and knowledge-exchange activities which may include innovative CPD, short course activities and developing personal areas of research scholarship and professional expertise. You will also make a significant contribution to employability, and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national, and international level.

You will be qualified to doctorate level or be able to demonstrate the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and have the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of the first 3-5 years from the date of appointment. Further, you will be a Health and Care Professions Council practitioner or hold an equivalent international qualification. We would particularly welcome applications from those with a background in learning disability or mental health practice.

For further information or the opportunity for an informal visit or discussion, please contact:

Head of Department, Dr Susan Dewhurst ([email protected]) or Programme Leader Ms. Helen Ribchester ([email protected]).

BU values and is committed to an inclusive working environment. We seek a diverse community through attracting, developing and retaining staff from different backgrounds to contribute to inspirational learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society. To support and enable our staff to achieve a balance between work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.
